        Thanks AB

Interesting how a couple weeks ago the deal was done

Wonder what other deal was done a couple weeks ago that may come out soon ?

That “outline.com” site is a sneaky way past a paid subscription URL.

I wonder how many deals are done months ago. I suspect only a very few are done in these last week and a half of trade week.

But where has that $50k per player retention bonus come from?

I understand that the Giants initially had a larger salary cap, partly because they also had a larger list but also to help them retain players in their formative years. But I thought that additional amount was phased out a couple of years ago, and that the Giants were already operating on the same salary cap as every other team (with the exception of the rental allowance for lower paid players, as the Swans also have.)

So that doesn't explain why the Giants seem to suddenly have such a salary cap squeeze now.

This isn't a comment on the politics of the salary cap (and whether certain teams, for whatever reasons, should have higher caps). It's just that it seems like the Giants just woke up one morning a couple of weeks ago and realised they had an issue, which seems odd.

Onthe afl site this morn : 6 years !!!

For me this even more speaks to the rumours we have been after ed Langdon also for that outside speed

Offering Tom 6yrs is because we want him at the Swans but it sends a very clear message to Ed Langdon where his brother will be for the next 6yrs if he signs

“Tom Langdon is weighing up a six-year offer from Sydney and has also been linked to Fremantle, where his brother Ed is a key contributor.”

The irony is that jake kelly fromadelaide who plays similar role to Tom Langdon might be heading home to the pies

I rate jake kelly more then Langdon as his ability to rebound transition is better - same height etc

Cool, so if you think he will get back to AA form, post it here so we can all recognise where you stand.

I don't think he is capable of getting to AA form at all. I'm not sure he would be in our best 22 next year.
I think he will be injured early next year and miss a massive chunk and offloading him will be seen in hindsight as a masterstroke.
Right now I think we got unders for him based on current facts and potential and ignoring my personal thoughts
But I'm hoping that at the end of the trade period, the big picture indicates a win for the Swans overall.

Feel free to bookmark this and repost if Hanners stars at the Saints and say "I told you so"

6 years smells a little of desperation me thinks.

What rumours that the Swans are after Ed Langdon? The only person I've read mention that is you. I get that you would like him at the club (and he's shaping up as a pretty good player) but I'm not sure how that translates into a rumour that the Swans have shown interest in him.

I don't have an issue with a contract length of six years for a youngish player, though the Swans have maybe tied quite a lot of their list up on long term deals. There's clearly a risk involved in a player then has ongoing injury issues (and Langdon has had a few in the last couple of seasons) but if it's a trade-off between contract length and yearly cost, it could make sense. Six years at $600k (or more) pa does sound a lot though.

It's OK. He'll be able to "go home" whenever it suits.

                            Hey Liz

I saw it earlier in the year when freeo were supposedly positioning for J McGovern, lobb 2019 and potentially coniglio back to WA

I think it was on the roar site and there was mention of gws maybe wanting ed Langdon as part of the swap with lobb and a couple posters said they heard the swans were keen for the Langdon brothers in particular the speed of ed Langdon

From that time I noticed ed Langdon playing for freeo and was impressed as the guy is electric and tenacious

                            But wouldnt cost the farm

Cannot believe what is happening at GWS, something has gone seriously wrong there, how can they be $2mill over cap as that what it looks like from players they are chucking out the door. Receiving clubs will play hard knowing they have cap issues.

We are bemoaning the loss of Hanners & Rohan cheaply, players who most here don't have in their best 22 going forward, but GWS! Lobb, Shiel, Scully (for junk pick), Setterfield, Finlayson, and talk of Patton now, that is serious talent walking out. FA hits them next year with their initial squad entering the window. I might be wrong but they are on the wheel of diminishing returns.

I think gws had the time re the salary cap

They decided to go for it 2018 win a gF

They held onto so much $$$ talent and could have got amazing trades last year but decided to go for the title with less return this year in trades due to needing to let go of $$$
