Harley gets a "F". No point sugar coating it, he went in saying we were going to be agressive and pick up a quality key defender.

Rather we were submissive and got reamed. I wouldnt mind losing hannerbury for a decent pick, but we have also stuffed up our picks such we probably wont use the ones in the 40's at all.
The Buddy-premiership window could only have stayed open if we brought in some quality. It didnt. Dwindle down to fringe 8 team, then rebuild.

      Marginal at best.

The only way this turns out well for the Swans is if the recruiters pick up a couple of gems in the 2nd round of the draft....We won't know the answer to that for some years.
      OR

Did we lose 2 players who weren't in our best 22 for 2 players who are?
That's a different spin on it, and no guarantees that the 2 new players will walk in to the side I guess.

Personally, I was happy to see Rohan and Hanners go, for various reasons, mostly done to death here, so I think longer term it was a winning trade period.
Certainly didn't set the world on fire, but expectations here were very high based on the Swans saying they'd be active and also because people needed something to celebrate after what has been condemned as a horrible year.
The difference between insanity and genius is measured only in success.

We had nothing to trade with given the Blakey needs!

The REALITY is the trade period has brought us Clarke, Thurlow AND BLAKEY.
Those who have the greatest power to hurt us are those we love.

Nah, he didn't play that one. However, his best game stats-wise of that year was against us in round 20. 23 possessions (9 contested) 6 marks, 5 clearances and 5 I50s. His stats (and heat map) suggest he played midfield.

We have far more draft picks than we need for Blakey. If we can trade out pick 26 for a half decent player before EOD, then I will upgrade to a C-

All of this return to Melbourne ... there are far more clubs for players to return to than just the Swans.

How would Blakey feel if we didn’t match bids (if we reasonably could)? Doesn’t inspire loyalty.

We miss 2 years of development in our system.

Left field thinking ... but you’ve headed so far left you’ve snuck up on my right!

For me, if he’s not over priced, we take him.
Blakey will cost us picks 26 and 33. I'm okay with that. But I don't think leaving Blakey behind is all that bad a strategy either given the way things are going. There doesn't seem to be much loyalty going around these days, so I wouldn't worry about that. And as far as a development in our system, why would clubs go after top end players who have no development in their system?

Also, why don't we come out and say that clubs can bid on Blakey at their own risk. He's going to be homesick in 2 years and we only think he's worth our pick 26, which would equate to a pick 20 bid. That seems perfectly fine for other clubs to ward off bidders.

Admittedly, I've been upset about how things have transpired this year, especially for the Gold Coast. And how the AFL sat on their hand and allowed the club to be dismantled. The list they have for 2019 will be lucky to lose any game by less than 100 points. It wil be an absolute sham. Their best 22 probably couldn't win the NEAFL permiership.

I don't see why we don't play that game as well. The northern clubs are at a big disadvantage with the current setup of the AFL.

Peter Ryan in The Age trade blog:

The Sydney Swans are set to land Geelong defender Jackson Thurlow in a surprise trade.

The talented 24-year-old has been out of favour at the Cats in recent times but he has plenty to offer and will meet the Swans' need for a rebounding defender, allowing Callum Mills and Zak Jones to move up into the midfield.

Having missed out on Tom Langdon, the popular Thurlow will be a perfect recruit for the Swans.

                  ...

Won't fit in here, he's an elite kick according to Champion Data! He's a tall wing/HB.

So that's two fringe/depth players for junk picks. That's ok.

                      Thurlow - pick 16 in 2012; 191cm and 84kg. 46 games. Missed all of 2016 with a knee reconstruction

Well we finally got a player to cross the border and bass strait

                        Lol

                        Tasmanian Thurlow welcome

If that knee recon is on track he will probably fight For a spot in he backline rotation

                        We will see

Anyone got better then 2013 footage ????

Jackson Thurlow makes debut - geelongcats.com.au

                        Jackson Thurlow - geelongcats.com.au

191cm, 88kg, good overhead mark, long kick and was a bit of a forward early days

An important area he is fighting for but I don’t see our backline rotation changing quickly unless Jackson performs a lot better then his 2018 season

Wish he was left footed to help our left and put the ball quickly to the money side of the arc

Vandenberg, Langdon, and Moore were not traded anywhere so I can't see how you can say we missed out on them. They each re-signed with their own clubs. Just because they signed late, it is no different to us re-signing Lloyd or Aliir.

AB, we see opportunity differently .

I want to see a squad that is significantly increasing in depth, quality and performance

Other clubs had opportunities to attract high quality players just as we had an opportunity

North, hawks, bombers made it happen

                                We didn’t

I’m not trying to change ur opinion

I am just annoyed with minimal traction vs other competing teams
