Don’t get me wrong. I’m not saying it’s a bad deal on our behalf. What we have essentially done is shifted a 2nd round pick from next year to this year. And if the experts are to believed this year’s class is/will be better than next year’s so that hopefully will work to our benefit.

However I’m just not buying the hoo-ha on social media and other forums saying the Swans have found a loophole in the system. and fleeced the AFL.

Didn't pick 40 get bundled out with the Blakey bid?

The loophole is avoiding using our top pick to match an academy bid by in effect trading it away temporarily and then trading it back.

So 38,39 which slid how many? are now 25 & 46 which seems good and we dropped from second round next year to third. Seems OK by me but depends on who we target at 25.

This article (Swans move up order in live picks trade - sydneyswans.com.au) plus the draft tracker suggests 25,40,45,80,95,98, but then goes on to say we traded 34,39 and 40 in effect for Blakey to get Blakey, 47 and 97..... I'm easily confused at the best of times but still confused haha!
Pretty sure the draft tracker is right. 47 and 97 are now 45 and 95 after some sliding due to matching bids.

But what was the cost of trading it back? Another second round pick albeit next year’s

That Carlton- Crows swap pick is an interesting one. If I was a Crows supporter I would be happy about that one.

We traded up 4 places from 26 to 22 (now 25) in this years draft and swapped a future second for a future 3rd.

Its the 40 that we still have according to the draft tracker that has me confused...

North must be the most unhappy club with the bid coming for Thomas at 8 when it was expected at around 12. Pies not too bad with Quaynor at 13 when expected at 14.

If we did nothing we'd now have 41, 42, 43 and a mid 50s pick.

Now we have 25, 40, 46 and moved next years 2nd to 3rd round. I'm thinking that there's someone we want at 25, only WCE & Crows pick before us tomorrow, we may know who they will pick.

I suppose there's a player we are keen on that we didn't think would make to pick 38. I guess we'll find out tomorrow who it is.
