There was an even better interview with him by the Fox panel team from the rooms. He disclosed (under prompt) that he gets a bit of stick from teammates over his hair.

The goals also came from our willingness to make second and third efforts
We are certainly good at identifying and developing young players that are willing to hunt and apply high pressure defence
Nothing like turnover goals for a reward via second and third efforts
Case in point the chase by ronke around the back from player to player and then nail Burgoyne 20m out
We prevented hawthorn from making easy back handballs to get out of trouble as we had guys looping around and hunting defenders
Lastly I really liked our tactics of forcing hawthorn to play forward from their backline and therefore have to kick more to a contest then find an easy uncontested mark
Ie ronke in particular was opportunistic looking for the out the back loose ball ...... but I watched again parts of the game and it appeared strategic that we had a few players running behind the contest to force hawthorn to transition immediately forward if they won the ball
We channeled their transitions into the areas we wanted to fight for the contest and prevent them building up easy uncontested passing / receives"be tough, only when it gets tough"

We didn't seem to learn that last year and let them play chip chip. This year, we seemed to have learned that tactic.Comment

Yes, when you compare those quotes with footage of what actually happened, then you really are left with two main options. One: Clarkson is genuinely delusional, or, two: he is deliberately constructing a false narrative, in an attempt to gain either some future advantage or some sort of petty vengeance. Since being delusional would probably stop you from coaching premierships, then I think option two is the likely one. It seems to me, that he was trying to fit Ronke's goals, into his narrative that his Hawks were boldly flying for the ball, but were cruelly prevented from marking the ball by our shifty tactics, and if only the umpires cracked down on these tactics, then the game would be better for everyone. So, given that, it's worthwhile looking at what actually happened in each of Ronke's goals.
Goal one: Grundy kicks the ball long to a contest about forty metres out. In that contest, McCartin tries to get near the drop, but is being blocked by Sicily. This allows Stratton to fly from behind, but he drops the mark. From a pack of players, it is roved by Towers, who gets it to Ronke. Ronke then streaks away and goals.
Goal two: From a centre clearance, Jack kicks to a contest between McCartin and Frawley. McCartin is the only one who attempts to mark, but because one arm is held by Frawley, he can only go up one handed. The ball spills to Papley who has a shot, but the ball runs out of legs near the goal square. Ronke, who has given Duryea about ten metres start in a thirty yard sprint, beats him to the ball and goals.
Goal three: From a ruck contest in the forward pocket, Burgoyne is done for holding the ball. Kennedy plays on, by handballing to Ronke, who then dribbles it through.
Goal four: There is a marking contest at the top of the square between Hayward and Hardwick. Hardwick doesn't attempt to mark, but Hayward goes for it one handed, presumably because the other arm is held by Hardwick. The ball spills to Sicily, who under pressure from Hayward, serves up a loopy handball to Burgoyne, who is caught by Ronke. Ronke then slots through the resultant free kick.
Goal five: Ronke takes an uncontested mark on the fifty. Seeing that McEvoy is standing the mark, he attempts to run around the ruckman, but is legged in the process. Instead, of taking a set shot, he plays on and goals.
Goal six: On a fast break, Hewett kicks the ball to Jack deep in the pocket. Jack flies, but is crunched front on by Frawley. No free kick is awarded. The ball is roved by Towers, who dishes a handball in the general direction of Ronke. In amongst four or five Hawks, Ronke gathers, evades them all, turns and goals.
Goal seven: Rohan takes a spectacular mark on the right forward flank. Ronke, makes a fifty metre lead from the left forward flank to the goal square. Rohan sends in the kick. Stratton, who was trailing Ronke by about ten metres, makes a desperate attempt to spoil, but the ball clears him and is marked in the square by Ronke, who calmly puts through the winner.
So, I think what is most notable about all of that, is that in only one of the goals, was a Hawk trying to mark the ball. Unlike in the Clarkson narrative, where he claimed that on four or five occasions, Hawthorn players dropped the mark, and then his defenders were caught out by it unexpectedly slipping out the back. What that demonstrates to me, is the arrogance and the sense of entitlement of Clarkson, since he obviously believes that he can go into a press conference and tell total BS, secure in the knowledge that he won't be challenged by the nation's AFL media.
Clarkson has not handled this well at all.
Thanks, good work 44.Comment

Robbo's had a crack at Isaac Heeney in the Tackle's dislikes this week:
Category: | Herald Sun
7. ISAAC HEENEY
Hawks sharpshooter Luke Breust kicked three goals and two of them came because of the lairising from the Swans player. In the third quarter Heeney flew for a mark in the goalsquare and didn?t hold it and Breust roved and goaled. On the wing in the same quarter, Heeney flirted with a one-handed take and didn?t control the ball. The Hawks won the ball, got it forward and Breust kicked his second of the quarter. Heeney had to play percentages and not play ?look at me?? football. He can thank Ben Ronke for making sure his mistakes didn?t cost Sydney the match.Comment

Horse gave a strong reply to Clarkson on triple m the rub after Roos asked him to come on and talked about several instance where hawks forwards were doing the same thing.
the sunday rub starts 59min in Horse clearly the most annoyed i've ever heard him.

I've read through the whole thread as part of the celebration after getting home from Melbourne. A wonderful win, and terrific to see the youngsters taking wing and giving stick, if you can do both at once.
Seven Ronkes make it right. He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)Comment

Great response by Longmire, and I agree (in his measured, responsible way) that was a very annoyed Horse. I?m really pleased he gave Clarkson a (careful) clip around the ears.
However we will see next match if Clarkson gets the result he is looking for with the umpires giving our defenders (even) more attention.
Ps: I loved that Longmire said in effect that he doesn?t understand why some people (implicitly including Clarkson) are talking down the game when in fact in many places it?s never been more popular (using NSW as an example, citing junior football including girls? football). Great stuff.
Pps: Clarkson seems to want a return to the old, old, very old days where just one forward and one defender flew for a mark. Well in those very old days it was rare to have 6 foot 7? forwards (and I deliberately use pre-metric measurements). In his world genes would be more important than skill. Personally I think the game would be a less entertaining spectacle, not improved as he asserts.Comment

I?m in agreement with pretty much all I?ve read here about Clarko being the kettle calling the pot black. Like the time he called for more scrutiny around Sam Mitchell - a man more known to illegally offend than be offended ...
If he gets his desired result I certainly hope Mr L Franklin also receives the benefit as every week he plays he is the most held and checked player in the league.
