Ppps: I didn?t take note of Levii3?s info. about the time mark of Longmire?s interview. And thinking it was close to the beginning listened right from the start. I?ve never heard that show before. Despite some blokey bloke-iness, it is very interesting with some good analysis and comments. And also quite funny at times (e.g. the byplay with Roos about Ronke?s 10 tackles).

I subscribe to that podcast but really only listen to the Sunday episode with Roos. He has such a good footy brain. Carey is quite insightful too but I still don't like him :-)
It is much better than "JB and the Bristle" who come across as being quite dim

Wasn't able to attend the game.. was spewing
Have watched the last quarter twice and the whole game once so far

My observations - McCartin was able to do exactly what we have needed for the last few weeks. He created a contest brought the ball to the ground. Seems to have impressive endurance and loved his attack when the ball hit the ground.

Cunningham impressive again. Love to know how many kicks in his career are around the corner

Hayward, Ronke and Ollie just brilliant

Plenty of love to McVeigh who has been huge this year and Grundy who except for a dodgy bounce and some umpiring was rock solid

Read through the whole thread and bemused as to how so many of us see the game different.
Always good to have different perspectives but i think a few on here and too many preconceived opinions

Different views are fine...... I think the thing that's been the most glaring since the match finished, is just how 'differently' Clarkson sees things. After years of his team constantly getting the 'rub of the 'flouro' green' ie: #freekickhawthorn, he thinks he can influence the AFL umpiring with an utter crap assessment of the 'swings and roundabouts' of AFL footy in an attempt to sow seeds of suspicion over our defence. What a @@@@@ with a sense of entitlement he is........

What annoys me is there is extensive coverage of Clarkson's gripes, yet Horse's measured response is only found on that MMM podcast. Will be interesting to see if it discussed On The Couch seeing Roos is on the panel.

Anyone who talks down McVeigh is delusional. His composure is invaluable down back. He buys himself time, uses the ball well covers for some skill deficiencies in the back half.
McCartin was brilliant for a first game, and very serviceable when judged against seasoned players. He competed well, kept his feet and applied pressure across the forward 2 thirds. His skills were a little off - that may be tired legs from the increased work needed at AFL level, or that his skills just aren't that sharp yet.

On the coaching commentary.. Clarkson is very deliberate in what he says. He wants to try to influence how the game is run to suit his style. He did the same with the ducking of the head and Selwood. He doesnt have many inside bulls in those situations, so it suits him. He also is reliant on tall forwards right now with his smalls sidelined, so complaining about the team defense is not a surprise. Longmire responded as well as he can to try to defuse talk about it, otherwise it will be a focus point for umpires and could hurt us.

The "rub of the fluoro green"; that's a nice turn of phrase.

I like Titus O'Reilly's take regarding the match:
"This was a close contest, and it was the Swans accuracy that got them across the line. In the fourth quarter, the Swans booted 5.0 to the Hawks 1.5.

Not that Alastair Clarkson saw it that way, accusing the umpires of letting the Swans get away with ?blue murder?.

The coach of Hawthorn accusing another team of benefiting unfairly from the umpires is like Donald Trump accusing someone of being loose with the truth."

Footy is a passion, not some cold hearted, spread sheet dominated rational exercise. On a Monday you want irrational reaction. You want emotion to trump reason.

I wasn't looking forward to Friday night as we normally lose a close one to Hawthorn. Ben Ronke - what a beauty! On the replays none of his goals were flukes. Couldn't see any beginners luck there at all - he competed hard and got himself in the right place at the right time.
Our guys applied a lot of pressure and were rewarded for it. Out of curiosity I checked out the Hawthorn thread on BF. Their fans were filthy with some of their players - in particular James Frawley, Langford and Tim O'Brien but they were sooking about the umpiring too. I guess they're not used to an even free-kick count. They were complaining about how badly they played. I thought it was a good game. The Ch 7 commentators were loving it too.
I just hope our boys can play with that much intensity next week at the SCG

The Access All Areas segment on the AFL site reckons (with Matthew Lloyd and Jimmy Bartel commenting):

                            - the free that was paid to Grundy when he was held by the arm by Langford was a correct decision
                            - the non-free to Roughead a couple of moments later when he, Reg and Rampe were all close together in a marking contest, was a correct decision
                            - the non-free to Jones when he was kept away from the marking contest by Isaac Smith, allowing Gunston to mark and goal, was an incorrect decision.

                            Go suck on that Clarkson.

And did he also show McLachlan video footage of the first free of the game, where there was close to no contact on a Hawks player? Or the non-free paid to Jack for front-on contact in the 4th quarter (which we're glad wasn't paid because Ronke scored his wonderful sixth goal from the ensuing contest). How about the free to Gunston against Mills, where Gunston initiated contact and had a fist full of Mills' jumper? Or the Smith shepherd on Jones?

What was minor irritation on Friday night at his lack of grace after a loss is fast turning into contempt for the man.
