Is Longmire cooked?

When a team is losing, the media try and come up with a story.
It happened in 2014 when we were struggling at the start of the year and they said that the recruitment of Buddy affected our culture.
Last year when we were 0-6 and now this year with our form slump, they have brought up Longmire being passed it and player discontent.Comment

This began when I mentioned the Age Realfooty podcast suggesting that Horse and Dew fell out last year, in reference to pupil defeats the teacher, but now appears to have metastasised into "When a team is losing, the media try and come up with a story."Comment

What convinces you they fell out?Comment

I don't think Mel's comment was specifically in response to that podcast, but rather to the various commentaries offered by luminaries like King, Brereton, Connolly and others trying to explain, or comment on, the drop off in performance since the bye.Comment

I don't recall any media outlets calling out Longmire at the start of last year. I'm pretty sure they went with our long injury list as the reason for our poor start. This was pretty generous IMO as the list at the time was exaggerated.
Even now Longmire isn't getting anywhere near the heat that other struggling coaches have in recent times (i.e. Buckley, Hardwick). The only articles that have questioned him are by the media personalities who specialise in writing about tactics/game plans etc. The journos who write more generally about the game (i.e. Robbo, Ralph etc.) have given him a free ride.Comment

In theory, in a reputable publication, journalists cannot run stories unless they have sources, and if the sources are anonymous multiple sources. So if the Age journos were talking about this publicly (although they've never gone to print with it) that would imply it's come from sources and more than one at that.Comment

Thanks Liz that's exactly what I was responding to.Comment

FWIW I think he's probably earnt the chance to turn things around next season, but the existing game plan simply is not good enough to win a premiership with. If he can't adjust it next year then he should go.
I think the concerning thing for some of us is that there hasn't been the foresight to make change earlierComment

To be fair, this thread has turned into a far more intelligent discussion of our style and the coaching of the team than the original question suggested it would. My issue is not with discussing how our team is playing and being coached, but with a sensationalised question that looked like it was trying to provoke a witch hunt. If that was not your intention then I accept that.Today's a draft of your epitaphComment

I'd be happy to edit thread title but can't work out how toComment

Matthew Lloyd’s had a crack at us and I think he’s reasonably on the money

SYDNEY is playing a brand of football reflective of a bottom-four club.
The Swans tumbled from fourth to ninth on the ladder after their 43-point loss to Essendon last Friday night, but they were in free fall well before that.
These results do not come as a total surprise.Last edited by liz; 3 August 2018, 11:31 PM. Reason: Please don't repost in full content from another site. Just a paragraph or two, plus a link, is fineComment
