I just don't understand why our worst loss for the year has to be in a final - it is sickening when this happens (and it has happened a bit of late). To only score 30 points, when our next lowest was 59 (and only two goals down from the team who won) - it is so disheartening, and I really am left wondering what it means. It has to be mental, rather than physical (the score and margin, not the result).
Is this the performance that we would have offered up this week had we beaten Hawthorn (which we should have) two weeks ago? It beggar's belief.
We were so close to winning a flag two years ago and now I am not sure where we are. The youngsters will be better for the exposure, but will our senior players come back into form?
Incidentally, I had lunch with a group of people today and I got chatting with a Bulldogs supporter who works for an analytics company and he confessed that their analysis of AFL grand finals revealed that the Swans v Bulldogs match was the worst on record. He said that he did not notice it at the time, but has trouble watching the game now and feels that they were gifted the premiership. That is not my reading of the game (in terms of it being 'gifted'), and it doesn't make me feel any better, but it was interesting to hear.

Buddy was nowhere near fit. He should it have played. Will not be too unhappy to see hanners gone. Got a few possessions but there usually ended up in GWS hands. Reid needs to be moved on, he is a list clogger. Always letting us down in finals, with " I am injured again". Is Tom Papley a little bit simple minded? Kicked the teams 4th goal when we where 50 points down and wanted to celebrate?. Got some strange looks from team mates.

When he was in the centre and got the ball, his kicks were just mindless bombs, a bit like Hannas.doof-doofComment

We never make the hard calls, and keeping both Grundy and Finger pointer is another example.
Trade Naismith, we need to trade players to gets some draft picks to rebuild a midfield which is totally shot.doof-doofComment

I see that Cameron was playing down Greene's kicking in the marking contest, saying that "You've got to be able to protect yourself, when people are coming back into your space".
Interesting idea of protection. That is, because your opponent wants to either mark or spoil, you're therefore entitled to kick them in the stomach, arm or head. I wonder if Cameron allows The Man Who Was Born To Be Punched, to practice that technique at training, against the Giants defenders? Or does he sensibly decide, that the risk of injuries and brawls is to high?
And I wonder if the continuation of the tactic, will lead to some further strange rule interpretations? For instance, if you try to defend yourself against being kicked in the head, by grabbing Greene's leg, will you be penalized for holding? Alternatively, if a defender decides that the best way to counteract the tactic, is to unbalance Greene by further lifting his leg, what happens then? Especially if he clatters to the ground headfirst and ends up being stretchered off with a concussion. Will the defender be suspended? Or will it be judged as, just being "able to protect yourself"?Comment

On FOX last evening Greene's 'karate kick' marking technique was discussed. Nick Reiwoldt had no trouble with it, saying it was within the rules as Greene was protecting himself. Healy said "RUBBISH" directly back to Nick, adding Greene deliberately had his studs up which is very dangerous and has previous form doing so, it needs to be outlawed. Brown then made comment what about players studs going into players back or head when taking big marks? Healy said that is completely different, because it's not studs up and not deliberate.Comment

But, that aside, Greene was too good for us. Ugg was right. We didn't have a matchup for him. Jones wasn't up to it. Marsh would have been an improvement (and he isn't a great defender).Comment

Marsh definitely reacted when he was kicked in the stomach. Aliir reacted when Greene’s stops scraped across his arm.
I’m surprised Zac didn’t really react with either of his two incidents. He normally fires up if someone so much as glances at him wrong (which usually annoys me, but if you’re going to get yourself reported at least have a decent reason & a boot to the stomach followed by a boot to the shoulder/neck seems more justifiable or understandable I guess).

I’d just like to see a defender playing on Greene, in a marking contest, protect his own space in exactly the same way. Blades of Glory style. But a defender with longer legs than Greene so that only the longer legged player will make contact. While I’m at it, the longer leg defender can have longer screw in stops. I’d like to see how Cameron and Heath Shaw and Greene himself react if blood is drawn or an injury is sustained.

And I find that those who say, "It's okay, because there's no rule against it", to be a touch misguided. They seem not to have any real idea how laws tend to come about. That is, complete sets of laws weren't laid down at the dawn of time, in moments of remarkable prescience. What actually tends to happen, is that sociopaths, cheats and narcissists, come up with new behaviours and tactics, that many other members of society find objectionable. This process leads to the formation of new laws. Much of the new Internet regulations are good examples. So, anyway, the lack of a specific law against what Greene is doing, shouldn't be seen as an automatic justification of Greene. Instead, it should be viewed as; in over 150 years of the history of our great game, Greene is the first person to be dickhead enough, to try and get away with this particular brand of crap.Comment

I am amazed that the umpires did not penalise Greene for his kick to Newmans stomach and he just missed Jones's head as well.
After his effort last year in kicking Dalehouse I stupidly thought the umpires would protect opposition players.
And for Cameron to defend him buy saying he was just protecting his space was pathetic,.
I agree with above comments - what would the umpires do if a player grabbed Greenes leg or even stuck out their boots to protect themselves.Comment

We don't, Naismith is just another in a long line of players who are permanently injury and are keep on the list.

I haven't seen last night's game and won't watch it, but there's no need for panic, we had a lot of injuries to key players this year but have uncovered new best 22 players. Remember Richmond 2016 to 2017, steady as she goes for us player wise but selections, positioning and tactics need a major revamp. Needs a dedicated thread once we've all cooled down.Comment

Several people at the ground were saying they would now support Melbourne... Looks like they're the official Swans second team this final's series...
Personally I'm a 'no Swans' ' no AFL' fan. I used to follow the rest of the competition,( I like Geelong and Freo) but I've given up this year after some appalling displays of umpiring and some appalling AFL house decisions regarding the Swans. I'm just sick of the Melbourne-centric AFL...
