Sam Reid 23 games in three seasons is not bloody helping us.

It's been a while since I went to the SCG, and I'll be in no rush to go back.

Noone is suggesting what Greene did had anything to do with the result - no one in their right mind would suggest it did.

This is a broader discussion about whether what he did is something that people feel should be allowed within the game. Many clearly consider it is not.

I think it should be treated no different to studs up in soccer. Doesn't matter if they are plastic, titanium, ANZ formulated cement or whatever type of studs, studs up in dangerous positions with intent is strongly discouraged on safety grounds. Its one thing for incidental contact in attempting to take a mark etc (though can still be dangerous and worthy of a free kick etc), but what Greene does has at least some element of intent to it, or at least it appears to.

Are you telling me Barry you were actually there last night.....

Listen, I understand you are disappointed. We all are. But lashing out at Greene like he has just killed the pope is childish. At worst, allir has a sore arm today. I'd be redirecting your anger back at the swans of you want better September experiences.

Yes, and it was rubbish. I don't know how you guys put up with it. 20 min queue to get in ( it was only 40k crowd). Waaaaay overpriced food. The new stand is too far back, had to watch the screen for a good 50% of the game. Quiet atmosphere, and kick to kick?. Can you call it that when 70% of the ground is roped off for cricket. It is, and will always be a cricket ground first and foremost.

Barry, the Swans miserable performance yesterday and Greene’s unacceptable (to some) kung fu style are two separate issues. Some of us are capable of walking and chewing gum at the same time.

Liz, perhaps it might be wise to carve off the (perfectly-relevant-to-RWO-forum) discussion about Greene to a standalone thread?

Ps. if Liz is still bothering to read ....

Better to think of it as 23 games in two seasons. More helpful.

Imagine it's Christmas 2017: Sam Reid, 22 games in one season.

                    Merry Christmas 2019!

Haha, yes sadly the Swans footy was rubbish - which was the reason for the quiet atmosphere.

And when there is a happy crowd that stays to the end, kick to kick is pretty good.

As usual, twist things to cloud the debate.......a lot of things didn't go our way in the match, including the -10 free kick differential but I think most would accept that it wouldn't have changed the result much and no one is suggesting that we lost the match because Greene kicks people or Davis is a hypocrite. We just don't like Greene kicking people and Davis being a hypocrite......

Reminds me of what was said when there was talk of Plugger coming to the Swans after the Caven incident.
And when Dermie was reported to be moving north.
And to a lesser degree Hall.
The horror of Stevie J coming up as a coach was also very short lived.

Now back to the main thread. Imagine if Goodes or Franklin had a marking style like Toby Greene?

If players are allowed to clear their space by using a kicking motion things will get interesting.
There is a rule called kicking in danger. The umpires have chosen not to use it. It seems to conform to the rule that Swans don't get protected, along with the rule that we don't get score reviews in our favour.

Whilst such conjecture is just that, I was one who was initially disappointed we recruited Tony Lockett, but he settled down and concentrated on being the great player he was. After that experience, I held high hopes Barry Hall would do the same, but after a couple of more settled years he almost caused us all to have anxiety attacks in the lead up to 2005 GF, and then embarrassment and shame after the hit on Brent Staker. It didn’t work out so well, and to this day I regret it wasn’t Brett Kirk up on the dais receiving the Premiership Cup.
Personally I didn’t have a problem with Steve Johnson joining the coaching panel. He’s no longer out on the ground whacking people.
Most supporters would rather a great player who didn’t thump/kick/elbow their opponents. Bobby Skilton or Leigh Matthews?
