Just ran out of steam. Rose Wicks and Bell pretty much played the whole game in the midfield with minimal rest while the Lions has the luxury of rotating listed players throughout the whole game
A lot to like about that performance. McLean made an imposing leading forward and Pink doing well with his closing speed and spoiling
Shame that it blew out late. I don't think that 37 points is a fair reflection of the game, considering that we were in front halfway through the final quarter. I really liked Cameron's performance today: we looked much more dangerous when he was in the ruck. Amartey and especially Pink, did really well repelling Brisbane for most of the game. McLean had an imposing final term with three goals. Rose had plenty of possessions, especially in the first. Wicks and Bell were also very good, with Bell topping the tackle count: which is an accolade that usually goes to Wicks. Thurlow was pretty good, without really playing the sort of game that demands a new contract.
Of the toppies, Martin with three goals had plenty of good moments. Thorne also grabbed a couple, but his day finished early, when his head was slammed into the turf in a sling tackle. Close also did well in his debut; showed some classy composure for a couple of goals. Gulden also had some good touches.
Overall, it was an encouraging performance, which suggests that just maybe the Lions are beatable. Though that would probably require a sudden spate of injuries, because at the present, their cohesiveness and confident running patterns, are very impressive when they have the ball.

What did everyone think of Bell and Ling yesterday ?
Bell was really good. He seems to have a very strong competitive streak. He kept on throwing himself into the inside midfield contests, even though he's probably more suited to an outside midfield role and even though Brisbane had a lot more mature-bodied midfield rotations. Extracted the ball a number of times and used it pretty well. He also topped the tackle count.
Ling showed his class a few times, but went through periods were he was anonymous. Though it's probably hard to get a lot of possessions, as a defensive flanker, against a team that was moving the ball well.
