Great last quarter. Encouraging to see Sam stand up with a few big moments.

    - - - Updated - - -

Aspley are up over the Giants 55-33 a fair way through the fourth.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

Great win, Swans. Very promising from Naismith. McInerney great in the last. McLean flew all day. Agree Pink should get a shot in the firsts next year.

But great pressure by a Swans player to cause him to muff it.

I only saw the second half but McInenery looks a really good player. Pretty much got us over the line with Naismith in the last quarter. Sam's agility seems to have improved big time. If he can stay fit, just him in the side makes us better. His around the ground play was pretty good.

Good that we go through to next week to give Naismith another game under his belt. Gets through that game and then has a full pre-season.

Nice win from the boys. Naismith looked fit, an injury free pre season and he'll have a good year in 2020. I hope Rose gets one more year and one more chance. I just don't understand why he doesn't succeed in AFL. He's a level above the rest.

I think it was toppy Max Geddes who swooped late, to put the Uni player of his kick. One thing that's usually impressive with the academy players, is their harassment of the opposition.

That was some final quarter. I wonder what was said to them at three quarter time, because their intensity was pretty poor in the third quarter but lifted immensely in the final term.

Really enjoyed Naismith showing glimpses of what he can do. Based on what I've seen (admittedly over a long and spread out stretch) in the NEAFL, he's capable of far more than just getting his hand on the ball at stoppages.

His mobility and agility have been underestimated on this site I reckon. Hope club's patience with him is rewarded re his fitness.

Excellent comeback. I thought one thing that helped in the last, was giving Errol Gulden more time as an inside mid. Really provided a lot of drive. Interesting that Amartey rucked for plenty of the last. Not sure of the reasoning behind that; but it seemed to work?

Overall, Rose had another too good for the NEAFL performance. Pink was a rock in defence. McLean was an excellent forward target. Wicks yet again topped the tackle count with 16: as part of 93 tackles all up. Yet we only go 3 frees in the second half? McInerney, Foot, Hirst and Ling all showed a bit of flair, but it would be handy if we could get them all a bit more involved.

Hopefully we'll get Stoddart back next week. Though the Lions will be very tough.

Big Sam looked good in Q4 playing as a forward. I'll confess, I have never rated his game around the park but he showed really good signs. If he can bring a bit of that to his game in 2020, we will be a much more competitive outfit.
Spectacular goal by McInerney. Having said that, he always has long periods if the game where he struggles to get involved. He needs to improve his general output to become AFL standard. Ditto for Foote.

Gee Ralph (my sons dog's name) you are bit harsh on McInenerny. Only saw the second half but he was a standout.

Maybe it was the 3q time melee aka push and shove that got them going - Rose and Naismith both prominent in the spirit stakes. Wicks great effort, his team mates were pointing out to the umpire that he was concussed in Q4 but came back and kept going.

An observation; it looked to me that at stoppages the umpires didn't throw the ball very high. Must check the AFL games next week to see if it is a common thing. Seemed to disadvantage the bigger ruckmen.

I've watched most NEAFL games and that's where he is at. He does AFL standard stuff, no doubt but is typical of a young player in that he struggles to do it for 4 quarters. I'm confident he'll make it!
Guys like Rowbottom are the exception, hence he plays seniors regularly as a first year.
Btw Ralph is a great name. I've had a dog, several fish and also wanted to call my son Ralph. Unfortunately the boss vetoed it and he got Jake instead (Lloyd is his favourite player and his favourite position to play in U9s is as a small defender).
