The Tim Kelly to West Coast trade has been announced. West Coast will give 14, 24, 33 and their future 1st round pick in return for Kelly, 57 and Geelong's future 3rd round pick.

Geelong now has 14, 17, 24, 33, 36 and you would expect one of the latter 2 picks to be exchanged to St Kilda for Jack Steven which would then probably be offered to us for Zak Jones.

I'm not keen on Joe Daniher. When fit, he's a great player but why do we need another injury prone tall guy. And Essendon would play hard ball because JD is till in contract. What we need is hard-nut midfielders.
Please don't give up our 1st round draft pick.

Daniher comes across to me as being a bit entitled and lazy. Reasons for leaving Essendon and choosing Sydney do not come across as convincing to me. Read former team mate Goddard's take on his rehab. Reckons Daniher should have worked harder at it. I reckon Essondon might be secretly pleased to unload him if they can get what they want, two high first round picks giving them a massive salary dump on a player who might not play many motre games. OP forced his brother to retire early and it may well also be the case with Joe. Happy to have him but on a similar price to what Scully and Hanners got. Our pick 23, take it or leave it and have the contract heavily based on performance incentives. No way pick 5 or 9 if we take that for Papley. If 23 is rejected, so be it, we can easily wait till next year when he is an RFA.

Because the AFL have a rule (whose interpretation seems to keep morphing) that says you have to use at least one first round pick in a 4 year span.

It's two first-round picks every 4 years, even though Essendon has only used one since 2015 and currently has none this year. I think the rule is being ramped up, otherwise Essendon would be in some trouble this year.

Geelong must use a first-round pick this year. They currently have two after the Kelly trade.

Essendon's pick trading to assist the Kelly trade is interesting. They've upgraded their pick 37 to pick 33 and now have picks 31 and 33 in the second round. Are they looking to swap them to get a late first round pick? Picks 31 and 33 have a similar draft value to pick 15. Geelong have picks 14 and 17. It looks to me like Essendon may have secured an in-principle agreement to swap picks 31 and 33 for one of Geelong's spare first-round picks later in the draft in case they don't secure a first-round pick in the Daniher trade.

Reported Essendon interested in Mason Cox, overnight Dododoro says definitely untrue, this morning the reporter says 1000% true.

Dododoro annoyed that the news broke because it shows they are looking for a Daniher replacement meaning they fully expect he is going. Weakens Essendon's bargaining position. We must not cave in on this!

I think our (Harley's) pursuit of Daniher, is within keeping of what goes on with alot of CEOs. They are generally egotistical types and risk takers, who like to play a big game for big results. They are also big on leaving a legacy.

This is Harley's big play, high risk, high reward. He wants to be remembered as the guy who took a big gamble that effectively won us a premiership.

I worry that the opposite will be the case.........

I disagree with your characterisation of Harley here. Harley on Monday kept suggesting words to the effect that when a good player says he wants to come to Sydney the club is duty bound to try to make it work.

I believe him. I don't think we planned for or overtly chased Daniher. I think Joe flagged the interest and we sought to make it happen.

I think we're being stereotyped as the raiding Swans, poaching big name forwards. But I think that does not accurately reflect what occurred.

Further, I reckon Joe came to us not just because of the lifestyle in Sydney, but because he respects Harley. Now we're trying to do the right thing by him and us.

I get that he might not be what we need and that we're anxious about overpaying for him and being dudded. But he's shown taste in seeking to leave Essendon and join us, he's about to be hated by their fans and be one of us, and is reported to be a good person. In those circumstances, reckon we should be respectful to him.

The point is if they dont select one in the 1st round this year it means they have to use their next 2x 1st round picks in the draft 2020 21 and not trade them.
Effectively ruling them out of the big fish race til 2022

After reading such a variety of what people want Re trades and draft picks for the swans ?

Does anyone else think the above was over or under or a fair deal ?

Or is it very difficult for West Coast to keep the talent they could have picked at 14,24,37 and maybe 14 next year in the future due to what they needed being interstate drafts picks?

West coast are definitely still in a window Re a premiership I suppose, but will the loss of the above picks undermine their future talent or do they back brining on board Kelly and the ability to trade next year onwards instead ?
