I like Jones, but if we were offered a first rounder would we take it? Likewise Papley if the rumours of him wanting to head home are true? I think your list is pretty much where most people would be thinking although if Cameron is not played, perhaps there would be some trade value in him.

Cameron for Shipley would be a great trade if the club doesn't think he has a future at the Swans

I think the Papley talk is low quality BS. More likely he is rusted on.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

Dunkley Jr kicked 3 for Footscray in the VFL on Saturday, did anyone watch his performance on the telecast?

I think that it's imperative that we re-sign Dawson and Jones. Dawson is shaping as a draft bargain for us. Selected at Number 56 a couple of years back. He is from South Australia so no doubt the Crows and Port may ask the question.

I don't have a great feeling about Jones but hopefully I'm wrong. Jones was taken at Number 15 and is entering his prime. Questions over his disposal efficiency but I like his pace and endeavour. We would want a first rounder if forced to trade for him. Whether we would get this is questionable as he will be out of contract and if he is prepared to go to a lower placed Melbourne club then we won't have much bargaining power. Much like what happened with Membrey (we got nothing for him as he was prepared to go to the Saints who were low placed then).
Of course if he will only go to a higher ranked team e.g. Hawks or Melbourne then we may do a little better in any deal. We would ask for a first rounder and they will offer a second rounder.

I think Jones will re-sign. If not we definitely want a first rounder.

I'm absolutely loving Dawson this year and I'm sure we'll be re-signing him asap.

I agree we should make a strong play for Sier.

Ed Langdon would be great but wishful thinking I reckon. Likewise Jacob Hopper.

We must be the only club in the AFL that hasn't traded in a GWS player, Carlton has had about a dozen!

Yep. Home to Papley is Gippsland not Melbourne, and I suspect he'd cause a riot if he walked out on the Swans:

"You could say that the only reason I’m here today is because of the Swans. Both my grandpas, Max Papley and Jeff Bray, played together for South Melbourne. Max played senior 59 games between 1964 and 1967. He won the club best-and-fairest award in 1966 and apparently Bobby Skilton rated him highly. Jeff, by all accounts, was a bloody good footy player too. He played senior 34 games between 1964 and 1966. That’s how my parents met, through their dads being good mates at the same club. I had never seen Max cry in my life before my rookie draft, but he was bawling his eyes out that day. He could hardly get any words out! He was so proud of me. There’s a photo floating around somewhere from that day of me wearing his old woolly South Melbourne guernsey."

I hope you are correct. Love the way Paps plays, so full of energy and passion. I would be surprised if he left but JPK left the Hawks and his family is royalty there (although I appreciate circumstances would bedifferent).

JPK was offered a modest one year contract. Papley talk is typical net BS, among the most ardently red and white players on the list.

The coaches aren't willing to play him and he's been on our list for a long time. If he hasn't cracked it by now ... The other player I wouldn't mind see given the chop is Clarke. He can find the pill, but turns it over a lot or puts a teammate under pressure with his poor disposal.
They're the obvious ones. Fox could be a chance. I'd be inclined to give Clarke another go. He's only 21.

I really want to like Clarke, but I just don't see the upside. Bit like Rose for me. They both have some skills, but don't seem to have the composed needed, nor footy smarts. Hope I'm wrong and they both come good for us.

Tom Browne on Triple M Melb just reported Collingwood are trying lure to Steve J from Sydney as their assistant coach next year, as his Sydney contract expires this year.

Could be a good thing. I’m not sure that he has been a great coach at Sydney
