Also if we got Daniher it might also ease our need for a KPD as it'd allow McCartin to play back and Reid to swingman.

There's no doubt that we need an inside mid. If we do end up trading away our first pick or decide to select someone other than an inside mid, we need to look elsewhere. That leaves us with a trade with another club or recruiting a mature aged player who has previously missed his chance.

If so, we need to look at Mitch Hibberd - He's been ripping up the VFL as an inside mid for Willy. He's even a bit bigger than Junior. These are this years stats; Player statistics for Mitchell Hibberd - SportsTG

He’s not a number 1 forward. Number 2 suits him better. Got killed by Davis on the weekend.
I wouldn't judge him on that. Buddy gets beaten by Davis too.

Exactly. I think they may end up preferring McCartin as a defender.

With a young team, supporters need to be patient and not jump to conclusions about where our weaknesses lie. I agree with many that we probably need an inside midfielder most, but that's not to say that things will work out even if we don't recruit one. Things can change a lot in one year. Right now we are the worst team for contested possession differential, but interestingly followed by WCE and Richmond, so contested possession is not the be all and end all.

Despite free agency, it will be hard to improve the team all that much through recruiting, and it's probably not the right time this year to try to do it. I would prefer to wait until the team settles down and we have a better idea of how we stand. I hope that time will be next season. Right now I'm looking at Stoddart and Ling being the keys to making the transition to the next competitive era for the Swans. I hope they both can cement regular spots in the side next year.

I am expecting that we will keep Jones. There was this same angst 2 years ago when his contract was up. The next generation coming through, including reserves players Bell, who debuts this week, McInerney and Foot, a are all quite fast, and as these players come into the senior side, less pressure to run and carry will fall on Jones and he can become a little less aggressive with his running.

We are doing a pretty good job building the side through the draft. We have some good picks this year, helped by our poor ladder position, and should add 2 good academy players in Campbell and Gulden in 2020. After the clean-out of older players this year, the retirements will be few, while the drafted players keep coming in every year. The shear weight of numbers of quality players should win the day and make the Swans a strong side for the next decade. Whether it starts next year or 2021 is hard too say, but we are not far off.

Longmire's response to a question about trading at the most recent Monday press conference adds weight to your theory. He said it was important that the club build to another long term, sustained period vying for a premiership. This suggests a continued development of the young players that we have. Obviously we need to improve our contested possessions but we also need more midfielders with foot speed. It would be great if Bell becomes one of these along with Foot and maybe McInerney down the track, although I think he is playing down back in the NEAFL. If someone of quality was available through trading, we probably should go for it. Hope you're right about Jones although it is getting a bit late in the day.

From Daniher's All Australian year: Joe Daniher 2017 Highlights - YouTube.

Booming left foot, but can snap off the right; spectacular mark; great at ground level.

Essendon would be hard work to trade with, though.

I don’t think Daniher is going anywhere.

Wait until he's a RFA next year, gives a bit more leverage if we have to deal with Dododoro! My feeling is though that there's nothing in the meeting between Daniher & Harley. Time will tell.

I certyainly wouldn't be letting go of our pick 4 this year.

Getting Daniher would be a coup, but I cant see why you'd play buddy and daniher.... and reid in the same forward line.
If we were offloading buddy to the gold coast (and maybe picking up some of his salary), I could see a reason to get Daniher.

Apparently Goldstein is out of contract. We should look at him as a short term fix until the youngsters come on.

Essendon are notoriously difficult to trade with. I can see them demanding 2 first round draft picks for Daniher.

If we can land a solid no.1 ruckman, this will let Sinclair play a Daniher type role for a fraction of the cost.

                              A breath of sanity.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

I don’t see too much sanity. Sinkers turns 30 next month and is never going to be able to lead our forward like Daniher could.

He also cost us Lewis Jetta, who was pick 14, so he wasn’t exactly a bargain.

But it’s moot. I think this story is already dead and buried.
