Maybe the Papley/Daniher swap is being driven by marketing concerns?
Buddy and Daniher are ruckman height, which means any life sized display unit, whether cardboard or inflatable will be quite impressive .
Whereas, a life size Papley replica, based as it would need to be on a short-arse would be far less eye catching.

I think you guys are nuts. If a player like Daniher is seeking a move to Sydney, you grab him and enjoy the ride.

We are Sydney. We are not a destination club. The one thing we have in our favour over Melbourne clubs is that some players want to get out of the bubble. It doesn’t happen very often but when it did with Buddy we jumped at it. Daniher is not Buddy but is damn good and you don’t knock that back.

For me, the comparison with Tippett is off the mark. We chased Kurt. I don’t think we are chasing Daniher hard but it is being driven more by him similar to Buddy.

Don’t overrate draft picks people! For the same reason why we don’t want to lose Paps for pick 8, we should embrace grabbing Joe for pick 4.

Remember folks, all those early picks will push out by two in all probability due to GC PP & GWS matching Greene bid.

Someone mentioned Rioli for WC, just been done for a positive drug test!

Great contest! Based on those highlights only, I reckon Daniher took the chocolates. How good was that Buddyesque set shot goal from outside 50 on the left?

I don't care if we go after Daniher, but not at the expense of Papley. I would be surprised if Essendon didn't have an offer on the table to Daniher to extend his contract beyond next year. If we have an offer on the table then I guess it is a decision, as mooted, that he will make in the next 2 weeks. His mate Merrett said he has taken a couple of weeks off to think about his future. Well hello, Essendon bowed out last week so they are all on holidays.

I don’t think the Daniher and Papley trades are dependent on each other. Both might happen but correlation doesn’t mean causality. All four possibilities still in play.

I still feel maybe Jones staying or going is a big part of the puzzle also

Jones to St.Kilda the popular media theory but with their pick 5 (7) heading to Freo for Brad Hill not sure how they get it done.

Trading in 2020 picks is a nightmare not just for the usual reasons of not knowing where a team will finish but mainly because of the large amount of players tied to clubs potentially pushing back picks significantly.

With Jones mooted to go to St Kilda, I wouldn't mind a swap for Blake Acres, whose name has also come up in trade whispers. I think their value is pretty close. That would leave pick 5 for the Saints to acquire Hill, so might make sense from their perspective. Coming from WA may not be an issue for Blake. He's been in Melbourne 6 years without any public issues about going home.

A fit Joe Daniher is a great addition to any forward line and there might be some eyes lighting up at Swanland imagining something similar to the dream forward line of Buddy, Tippett and Reid. That really never came to pass and I suspect this one with Joe Daniher will have its mishaps as well. Joe is probably worth a pick 4, but talk that Essendon should get 2 first round picks is ridiculous given the circumstances with injury concerns and free agency looming next year. It seems like waiting a year is the smart option, assuming Joe doesn't extend his contract with Essendon.

I would hate to lose Papley. He brings a lot to the team, especially his energy. But if he does go to a Melbourne club, we will find a way to replace him. It won't be the same kind of player, but we have a lot of options and one will work out.

Nailed it! The kid is a serious talent, we'd be crazy to pass this opportunity by. For me, the mystifying part of this rumour is why Essendon aren't moving heaven and earth to keep him - they look like lame ducks without him,

Awesome game. That goal of Rohan's is nearly identical to his first goal last week.
