Great podcast on the Sydney swans trading; makes such a difference from the Melbourne crap that we totally stuff it up.

Check out The SuperFooty Podcast - Trade Period Special around the 20:30 min mark.

They say that keeping Paps was more important than getting Daniher.

And that Daniher was suspect after two year out of the game.

    Brilliant read of the trades.

I thought Pink showed some real talent and growth and Hirst only had short time to show his talent. Tucker is the real unlucky one for the short time he had to recover from serious injury after starring in tge WA Colts comp for Peel. Clubs are so ruthless nowadays which I understand. But Gardiner could have been better with his words for each delisted player.
    Totally agree!!

Why would anyone move here if after six months we delist them??

And why would we keep Menzel??

We have become a refugee centre for Geelong rejects!

Maybe the most recent operations he has had will turn out to make a difference, but until he actually trains and plays for an extended period, we can't know. It's hardly surprising that Bennell's management team (and Bennell himself) would be spruiking the latest treatment as the "wonder cure" as they try to get him another opportunity, but the proof will be in the pudding.

So there's nothing incorrect about Mr Magoo's observations about his calves. Nor anything to suggest he hasn't already read the same media spin as you have.

I'm neither particularly "for" or "against" the recruitment of Bennell. But whichever club does recruit him (if any do), will do so knowing they are speculating somewhat.

They didn’t say it explicitly but I think Champion Data looked at what each club had gained and lost in terms of players and draft position when assessing the trade period.

They said the Saints had taken a huge risk giving up 2 years in the draft and if it didn’t work they’d be in trouble.

Also that for a certain period this year, Zak Jones was the #4 ranked wingman!

What's more important are not the words released publicity by the club but how the communication between the club and the two players concerned. Hopefully it was handled respectfully and empathetically in a difficult and delicate situation.

Agree, a very sensible appraisal. It's a real pity the Vic footy clowns can't put aside their prejudice against us for just a second.

Re : the podcast- Yes, that was a for more measured and realistic assessment of our trade period and the non-trades of JD and paps. We need paps far more in 2020 than we need JD.

Glad others picked up the nonsense re St Kilda. Below is an article on it from the Herald Sun.

Giving up two years of draft picks for five stars is one thing.

They got one in Hill. They then got a run of the mill small forward in Butler. A old fart in Ryder. Jones I rate more than most but he is solid, not a star. And Dougall may be something, but is 23yo and still no more than potential.

Boy, if it doesn’t pay off they are in deep doo doo in a couple of years.

I think that a fully fit Hannes and Max King no4 draft pick the year before will also add a lot to Saints in 2020

Max King was a fair bit better then his brother Ben and in a bottom placed gold coast suns team Ben still had 17 goals for 14 games. I suspect Max who is a serious talent could have 25 goals in his first season 2020 minimum especially working with athletic tall swing man Dougall

                  In 2019 missing:
                  Hannes played 5 games
                  Jack Stevens 7 games
                  Max King zero games

For a team not many rated they still had 9 wins and I think their team is way better for 2020 and will probably finish ahead of Sydney Swans again

                  Bradley Hill - dominates possessions
                  Butler - exciting up front
McDougall - on the way up
Hannes - back and fit ?
Max King - very exciting talent
Jones - good depth experience on the wings with Hill

That is 6 players who didn’t get the ball for them last year that will now feature in their team

Their next batch of Marshall, battle, hunter draft pick 7, Coffield draft pick 8 are exciting

Or they could just continue to be a 9-12th place team for the next 10 years.

Agree that Saints have taken a high risk approach and that they've improved their list to be 9th-12th while selling the next two years of draft picks.

Paddy McCartin has been delisted by the Saints and he is taking next year off. Hopefully he can get over his concussion issues to live a normal life outside of football.

Good (re delisting, takes temptation to play off the horizon). Good re taking a year off. And totally agree with your hope for his future.

These decisions must be a relief for all close to him although I expect they are still very worried.

It's quite a tragedy for McCartin that he may never play top level football again due to the ongoing concussion issues. He obviously lives for the game and his Club and he cannot do what he wants.
