Wonder if we could bundle up next years first rounder with one of our second round picks in order to snag another high pick this year ? My knowledge of the points index isn’t great but I gather it is likely ( with a lot of water to go under the bridge still ) our first pick may be used to match for Campbell, and so it’s kind of a wasted pick any how ? Assuming we have enough picks later to make up points for he and Gulden, and the fact we can go into deficit if need be. I guess there is risk involved but if we could nab two highish first round picks this year and another two first rounders next year ( potentially ) that’s pretty handy to add to a young list.

Can a couple of posters please cut out the bickering and name calling. I’ve just moved house and don’t have internet access at the moment other than via my phone. And it’s tricky to moderate on a phone. Otherwise I would have deleted a handful of recent posts. Would be appreciated if those responsible can do us all a favour and just move on.Comment

Regardless of that, I’ve read supporters of a dozen or so teams claiming they “have a feeling” their club will trade up, or hoping out loud that will happen. Some clubs have made their desire to trade up known. Not many clubs looking to trade down or out, and no club can trade if they don’t have another club to trade with. There are a couple of clubs who might yet manoeuvre when a bid comes, but there aren’t many bid eligible players this year, and those who do have access to them have already done a bit of manoeuvring.Comment

I've been very tempted by this idea, but it could be a very costly exercise. If we finish outside of the 8 again next year, as I expect we will, then we'd be handing over a future top 10 pick (say pick 10) and a second rounder (say our pick 32) = 1979 points, equivalent to pick better than pick 5 for something probably in the teens. Maybe a straight swap - next years first for this years first.

I read an article last night at home re: Flanders could not find it at work today. Sorry.
I just listened to Cal Twomey explain his phantom draft. My jaw dropped. He says we haven’t shown as much interest in Flanders as other clubs
Also that we were desperate for Lochie O’Brien the year we took Ling, He thinks we might be after a running player this year.
Based on that and my rumour, I really think he has no idea and Flanders was a total guess.
I could see us picking Ash, Stephens or even Young (who is quick) over Flanders.
I think it’s completely openComment

Red flag Swans!!
If it is true that he has said this, I'm going cold on Flanders.Comment

If there's any truth to this, players who make such comments should be bamned from that year's draft. Full stop. AFL must take strong action & make an example to stop this becoming a tactic for the easons given above.Comment

I’ve tried googling anything relating to Flanders saying he didn’t want to leave Vic and found nothin. One article explicitly states he has no issue moving interstate. He moved away from his home in fish creek to Warragul ( admittedly not all that far) to join a school that would better enhance his chances of getting drafted, as a 17 year old.
