Jack, McCartin in line for Blues - sydneyswans.com.au

While Jack would play a role at ground level inside 50 should he be picked to take on the Blues, McCartin's competitiveness would greatly benefit fellow tall forwards Lance Franklin and Sam Reid.

Longmire said he'd have no problem fitting all three tall targets into his forward set-up, with draftee Nick Blakey also a talented aerialist. "If they're all up and running and fit and they've been training and are able to get up and down the ground, I'd have no issue with it," he said. "They're pretty mobile all three of them and whilst they've got some height they can get up and down the ground pretty well, so we wouldn't have a problem doing that if we needed too."

Longmire said Blakey's versatility meant that he could be tried further up the ground should the Swans' forward line looked too top heavy. "We've talked about using him in the midfield, particularly on the wing, so that’s an option for us," he said.

They know he has an ongoing injury so won't play as much midfield as hoped and so will continue to underperform and lose value. Swans say he's playing against Carlton. Heeney fit to take on Blues - sydneyswans.com.au
I agree with horse on this one. Blakey is fast, has a great left boot and at an underage level, would turn games when pushed into midfield. His height is irrelevant if he has the skills ( think Cripps and Bont). We are so short on guys who can deliver the ball effectively into the forward line that it's worth trying Blakey upfield.

Maybe one or two changes ( Clarke needs to be dropped, maybe for jack if he’s ready ) but that would be it I would think . Maybe mccartin comes in but Blakey would have to come out and he has contributed one goal and one assist in each game so far , not sure with our scoring we can afford to lose even that contribution . Mccartin does create a lot of contests and clunks a few though so you never know .

This reflects my view too Melbourne Blood. I worry we will go too tall against Carlton, like I felt we were against the Dogs. While I like the 4 big options, them plus Sinkers seems too much tall timber - and its the pressure that smaller forwards should be able to put on in the forward 50 that really has been noticeably absent.

McCartin, Dawson and Thurlow in for Melican, Clarke and O'Riordan.

Will be interesting to see what we do down back!

Wow! Very surprised to see Melican dropped. Will Mills now get to play midfield? Possibly not with Melican out too.

Where is Dawson going to play. Surely not FWD? They’ve dropped 2 defenders 0 forwards and brought in 2 forwards 1 defender.

Well one “logical” move would be to play Reid as a tall defender.

Melican out for match up reasons? Only logical reason unless he's sore. Missed a lot of footy.

To be honest it may not be this year but I reckon that McCartin could become an elite intercept marking defender in the coming years.

Exactly what I was about to post ! Perhaps it’s horses for courses, Carlton has Casboult and McKay as talls ( curnow is out ) so maybe Rampe and Allir are enough to cover those ? Possible regarding horses words through the week that Blakey will move to a wing ?

Casboult has come in to replace Curnow. The other tall forward is Mitch McGovern

McCartin may spend time in defence if needed. Good footy brain.

Dawson needs to be played where he can deliver ball inside 50. Elite kick that we miss apart from Mcveigh. Same with Blakey if possible. Rotate them high and low?

Melican and O’Riordan both gave away two goals each last week through poor play and frees, didn’t they? Dropped to reflect on that perhaps?

Dont mind the team but COR is stiff. Glad Dawson is back, would be nice to play him in the mids and rest forward
