He said he was staggered by the Norf offer, so he must have slept on it for a few nights.

The reason for him taking his time was making sure it was the right thing to do

The road to Longmire announcing a three-year extension might have presented like a drawn out saga, but in reality, the 48-year-old’s manager met with Sydney chief Tom Harley for the first time last Friday and a deal was struck by early this week.
What did take time was Longmire going through what he describes as a “deep” personal process with those closest, to ensure he was being true to himself about still having the energy and drive to do justice to agreeing to remain at the helm of the Swans into a second decade.Comment

The best part about Longmire rejecting the Norf offer is that it shows what an insipid club they really are. They continuously offer these massive dollars to both players and coaches and they always get rejected. What a rabble.Comment

Harsh but true.....and a former Swan may save them.Comment

Quite possibly any of the following:
• 1996 grand final
• North’s attempt to push into the Sydney market by playing some “home” games there
• North repeated failed attempts to lure big named players from other clubs by throwing big dollar offers. No one likes having players poached
• the booing of Goodes (sure, other clubs did it but some clubs were worse than others ... North were in this camp)
• the recruitment of Shanon Grant - who was a potential gun - when we were having trouble retaining young talent
• their (at times) unpleasant supporters

In part it arises from the period North picked Sydney as their "second home", played a handful of home games up here while making it clear that their heart remained in Melbourne, and then sent people to stand outside the SCG for Swans home games, handing out leaflets about Kangaroos memberships.
Personally, I've had some pretty ordinary experiences at games with North fans. Probably only Hawks fans (as a general group - there are always some exceptions) provide a less pleasant experience.Comment

I came to dislike them - or at least their fans and so by extension the club - from the incident of Thomas sliding in and breaking Rohan’s leg. I don’t think for a moment Thomas was trying to hurt Gary but it was very reckless.
This was just weeks after Goodes was suspended for a minor sliding-in-on -knees incident in a match against Port where the Port player did exactly the same (they were both going for a ground ball). Nobody was hurt. Goodes was suspended, the club appealed but the appeal was dismissed.
Thomas was also suspended, North appealed, and the Tribunal upheld the appeal. And North fans screamed all through the appeal process about how unfair Thomas had been treated and that the incident was Gary’s own fault!
After the Thomas appeal was upheld, the AFL announced that for the rest of the season sliding in would be adjudicated as a free kick, but not as a reportable offence. So Goodes was suspended for a minor incident where no one was hurt that a few weeks later was no longer a reportable offence!
And then the behaviour of the North fans at ANZ Stadium during Adam’s last match (not yet announced but known to be likely) was despicable.Comment

Thanks for all the reminders guys of why we hate North apart from all the frees Ben Brown gets and the pathetic staging by Boomer for not being thrown the ball back.
There must be a lot of tribal rivalry (South Melbourne V North Melbourne) going back to old times.
I hope they give Shaw the chance to develop further as a coach and then returns as senior coach at The Swans when horse goes to the paddock.Comment

* Norf handing out membership leaflets at our SCG homes games in the 90's trying to steal support from our club.
* The umpiring bias in their favour when we were going toe to toe with the in the 90's.
* That worm Thomas ruining Rohan's career.
* etc, etc.Comment
