Winners are grinners and losers can please themselves, as the saying goes, so I don't even think it warrants much discussion. Robbo's hyperbole aside, he clearly disagrees. That's fine (note the saying above).
But I would make the following points:
Did Rampe's action impede an opposition player and did it impact the play? - If not, then who cares? Most football fans (individual club bias aside) don't want to see umpires paying free kicks in those situations.
Even noting the point above, the AFL could still fine or report Rampe for his actions, that is their prerogative.
The rule as it currently stands is essentially inadequate anyway (considering it does not mentioning the climbing of the post). Was it even Rampe's intention to deliberately shake the post while climbing it? I am not sure that point can be satisfied either.Comment

After giving the non decision against Dane's goal post climbing the 'all clear', the AFL now seek a 'please explain' from Rampe. The 'you talk like a little girl' barb is also part of the follow up.
Did Alistair or Eddie or some other Victorian sook give Gil a call?

The Rampe incident is getting quite funny now, just because it's become one of the topics that the footy world loves to discuss ad nauseum. Or whatever the Latin is for "until next week".
I have finally read rule 17.11.1 and it refers to "a Player or Official who intentionally shakes a goal or behind post". I can't say for sure what was going through his mind - either getting a better view or getting higher for a touch on the line are my guesses - but I'd argue that shaking with the aim of distraction was not the primary intention.
So once again the "laws" have left themselves open to interpretation through their wording. Well that's human beings for you.Comment

I didn't hear about (or see) the Rampe incident until Saturday night. What he did had no impact on the result but in that situation the captain should be directing what the rest of the team does. Our tall players should have been camped on the goal line and the rest of the players (other than the guy on the mark) should have been running around randomly and doing handstands, etc to distract Myers. Being a larrikin is ok sometimes but he's a club captain - he needed to show more leadership. If McVeigh was playing he would have organised the players in that situation.
When I think about it further I wonder if Rampe has an 'I hate umpires' thing going on because he does treat them with contempt. Does this go back to the 2016 GF and subsequent games where we've been shafted by the umpires. I suspect we won't ever see his 'please explain' letter to the AFL.Comment

But not much was done to distract Myers (other than Rampe’s acrobatics).
Is there any reason why the rest of the players couldn’t line up in a formation behind the man on the mark, and as you say leap about etc.? A bit like an animated soccer wall? Or possibly in a V-formation fanning back towards the goal posts?
They wouldn’t do it in a normal goal kicking situation because they would be leaving opposition players unattended. But when it’s a kick after the siren?Comment

Bartel in Channel 7’s commentary explicitly mentioned that tactic was banned. I haven’t tried to find a written rule that covers it though.Comment
