Hawthorn were rated 8/10 and 6.5/10 for last 2 years in the trade period by this Media MOB. And look where they are.
I doubt that the trade strategy can be looked at so early. There is a lot of water that needs to go under the bridge.
I think we have done well with Hickey in and Aliir out.
For getting points, we needed to offload someone and there were only a handful of players with currency that we could lose. So it is fine losing one from the area of the ground that we are OK. Hickey and Points in return is nice strategy. If our squad is healthy we should atleast go up by 3-4 positions this year.

Small forwards - Braeden and Errol will fit in nicely.

After his Covid breach, an argument put forward was that everyone deserves a second chance and we had an obligation to help him become a better man. I can understand this argument but don't agree with it, especially as he really should've known better. In the process of being stupid, he cost our soft cap 50k, letting down the whole club and its supporters.

Being found guilty of violence towards his partner is inexcusable and grossly illegal. His rehabilitation (and punishment) is no longer our responsibility - it's now over to the judicial system.

Rating the trade period and the draft immediately after they have occurred is pointless, but gives the media people something to do and footy tragics like us something to complain about!
I think we have done what we needed to in the trade period. Would have loved Aliir to stay a Swan but he obviously had his head turned with a decent offer and security of a four year deal. Best of luck to him at Port.

I'm sad to see Aliir go and am not confident that Hickey will be the answer in the Ruck but I guess they did their best. I felt we were under-paid by Port for Aliir and over-paid WCE for Hickey. We just need to move on - what's done is done. Collingwood making us look good in comparison.

Absolutely agree. Trades can't be judged until we see how the strategies work out through the second stage of recruiting: The draft. When we get a gun at pick 3 then see Campbell and Gulten dominate, critics of our trading will be saying how smart were our moves.

And next year when Aliir is kicking the dew off the ground at the Port Adelaide Magpies watch how many on RWO try rewrite history.

Big Cat do u mean the grass in the local park where we and the swans players will be watching the 2021 finals series?

Or will it be the grass at Port Adelaide for their first final in 2021 ?

I agree - the AFL website is rating each club's draft just to have something to read and discuss during the off season.

It's incorrect to give Sydney a rating of only 5/10 in the trading period when the aims of the trading period were met: the club recruited a ruck who wants to come to the club, the club got a few hundred more points for academy players, we still hold pick 3 and next year's first two picks. It's like the Swans lost 3 out of 10 simply for not being ambitious enough during the draft.

Other clubs that met their modest aims were also marked down for the same reason.

As for the draft wrap, I agree that it was a disaster for Collingwood. The Dogs and Saints did very well. I thought North, PA and Carlton also had a good trade period with good value trades. Geelong gave up a lot for Cameron. If they don't win a premiership in the next couple of years, it could hurt in the long run. Brisbane will do well if Daniher gets back to his best. As for the rest, it's fairly even.

I see that Adelaide will pick up Jackson Hately for free in the PSD. So I should put GWS in the trade loser category.

We gave up Aliir for not enough. We traded in a 4 club journeyman ruckman, missing out on better ones. We did nothing else to try and climb off the bottom of the ladder.

I have no idea how you could rate it any higher than a 5!

Many on here think that Dodo will bid for Campbell and that is certainly a possibility.

I would not be surprised if the Giants who have plenty of 1st round picks put a bid in for Gulden.

Remember they did bid on Blakey 2 years ago.

                            +1

Pies aim was to shed salary and get i to the 1st Round 10/10

The chances of Hickey being anything at his age and his journey are about 20%

Port have 3 Rucks, we dumped Alir and couldn't get one of them.

Keeping Pick 3 is a win, the Academy players were always going to happen one way or another.

Lets hope as other have pointed out, we dont pick someone at Pick 3 from left field

Can anybody cite one game when Aliir had a major impact? These games don’t exist. Just a few highlights. Bit like Rohan’s highlight reel except that Gaz had the occasional influential match

I’m sure people on here would have been content to get a third rounder for Harry Cunningham had he been offered up and yet he has had significantly more impact on games than Aliir.

It appears Aliir (who I like) has a cult following which reacts the same way as followers of the Donald cult in the US.
