For those wondering about us taking a defender at pick 3/4, here's Knightmares draft profile from the above ESPN link. I'd be happy with this

"This year's top key defender, Grainger-Barras is athletic and impressive both as a stopper and intercept mark. His game in the WAFL against Perth key forward Logan McDonald solidified his standing as one of the best in this draft pool - when moved onto McDonald in the third quarter he either won each one-on-one contest, spoiled or took the intercept mark when they were matched up."

Chris Doerre (Knightmare) really rates Campbell and Gulden noting their kicking skills, thank you very much, nice pair to add to laser boot Dawson and Blakey. Buddy will be loving those passes

Cal Twomey had us taking Sam Flanders, as did many others. Stephens was rated pick 9. It was really not that far off the mark. Maybe personality swayed the Swans to take Stephens instead of Flanders. I wouldn't say it was a left field pick.

We've already mooted that we are in the market for a key forward, so McDonald and Thilthorpe would be top of the list. After that, it's not clear, but Hollands looks to be the best player that would be available. He can play forward, but is undersized for a key forward. Like Richmond before Lynch, it's possible to have a very potent forward line with only one key forward, and a lot of other shorter options. I think we can do the same.

There's always next year's draft to hone in on a key forward, if we don't land one this year.

If we don't draft a key forward, we give McLean and Amartey another year, hopefully playing competitive football, to show if they can develop into AFL level forwards. I would say they're both 50-50 shots. So maybe one will make it. Maybe we won't need a key forward after all.

Yes, I strongly suspect that Dylan's personality was a factor. He seems a very amenable chap. I also think that we've looked at Richmond's success and concluded that a major reason for that success, are runners that can get to contest after contest; and who by their weight of numbers, can convert 50/50 contests to 75/25 contests. So, outside run may be a priority.

And it will be interesting to see if either McLean or Amartey make the grade. If McLean gets an injury free preseason for the first time, he could have a very good year, as the second or third tall forward. So far, his marking and competitiveness have been very good, it's just his mobility has let him down. So, if he can significantly improve his tank, he should keep his spot on the list.

Amartey may have a tougher path? In the 2019 NEAFL season, he impressed me most a key defender. Which is an area that we don't really need back up. So now he needs to impress as a back up ruck or key forward, but unfortunately, he's not really big enough for a ruckman, or mobile enough for a KPF. Maybe if he gets a chance to specialize?

On Amartey, he is actually quite quick and can run very close to a 3 second 20m. His tank isn't bad either.

maybe grainger-barrass is why we let Ali go. Just a thought, can we down grade the likes of E Taylor (to at least be trying to hep him) Sam Gray, Naismith etc to the rookie list to promote McLean,Bell and Amerty to main list to get to the required numbers. Still pay them what they are contracted for.

I think the mid season draft/s next year are going to be huge. Available for selection will be 19yo that didn't play this year and didn't get picked up in the ND that would have been draft bolters if they'd played U18 this year.

Most clubs will leave a vacancy on their list, particularly those with the high Mid Season draft picks, Crows, Norf, US & Hawks.

Whatever ideas we may dream up, you know that the club has it all worked out far better than us, this includes where Campbell and Gulden are likely to attract bids, what to do about potential points deficits, Paddy McCartin, who to take at pick 3, Mid Season draft, Pre Season additions etc.

What this tells us is that 18 clubs will look at draftees differently, bar the top few. What recruiters look for in a player will vary greatly. eg. Terry "The Wallet" Wallace said Sam Mitchell was too slow and he got overlooked in his draft year. My son played against Sam for 4 years and I ran the boundary all that time. He and Damian Cupido (who played for us) were head and shoulders above the rest in the Eastern Football League Junior comp all that time. I marvelled at the consummate ease in which he found the footy, knew where to run and read the play. In the end 15 clubs missed a rolled gold opportunity.

Who can forget Adam Goodes going at no.45 after kicking 6 goals in the Tac Cup GF. My brother who was there raved about him after that game and was ecstatic when we drafted him. And our master stoke 2 years ago when we traded picks to get Rowbottom and McInerney. If these boys don't play 200 games for us I'll eat my hat.
