I'm very happy with our pickups tonight - I've always liked McDonald, and while the reaction might suggest we will have some work to do to settle him in Sydney, we have done it plenty of times before. The kid has quality about him, and can be a genuine chance to be a Rd 1 selection next year imho. Also gives us a much clearer idea of long term structure of the team, and I like it.

Frustrating the Wees and Poos bid up Campbell a bit, but Errol probably went a bit later then I thought he might. So swings and roundabouts, and maybe we can pick someone up with our last pick, or a bit of late horsetrading to get up the ladder a bit perhaps.

Well done to KB and the team for preserving pick 3(4) and managing to accumulate enough points to snare Campbell and Gulden. Nice haul!

In KB we trust.

McDonald was a nice surprise. I expected North to draft him.
Hawthorn was not a nice surprise, but we had the points to match.
Gulden going later balanced out the early Campbell bid.
Will we draft one more?

Though in a way, I'm pleased that he didn't slide any further, as I was starting to wonder, if my very high opinion of him, was somehow misguided.

I think a few people are over-analysing McDonald's response to his selection. He seemed happy enough to me. He is probably a little more reserved than some of the other young men selected.

AFL Draft, Pick 4: Logan McDonald

I was listening to SEN on the way home ( yeah I know, but I like Bob Murphy and Andy Mahers show, Bob is low key hilarious) and they were discussing how every draft pick is likened to a super star. Nobody is likened to a great role player. Which every great team has. Bob called it the Marcus Ashcroft effect or something like that . Ashcroft was a 300 gamer, 3 time premiership player, but no frills. Just a very good unremarkable player. It’s spot on watching tonight, and reading all the ore draft write ups. The media liken every draft pick to a superstar ( buddy, dusty , McGovern etc ) , but never to a great role player.

Anyway, great haul for the bloods tonight !
