Whether any of us agree or not re: Aliir being traded, it would be almost certain we (ie. the club) have at least had a discussion and are open to it.

It happened with Hannebery - when those rumours started the fan reaction was ‘he’s under contract, tell St Kilda to x&@$ off, how would they feel if we started talking to all their contracted players ...’ but the silence from the club at the time not hosing it down later made sense that we were on board with the move all along.

It would be a disgrace if the AFL allowed that rumoured deal between St Kilda and Adelaide for the Crows to get pick 2 - but I think it is more of a conspiracy theory than reality.

The AFL say they review each trade and don’t approve it if it is lopsided to get around other rules - but it’s hard to trust them.

I’d like to keep Aliir, particularly given the imbalance of fit talks on our list.

I’d imagine the only circumstances we consider it are if we get a ruckman we want in return.

We offloaded Hanners to the Saints, rather than vice versa. Part of the mysterious cleanout that included Rohan.

Which we may be doing with Allir, seeking extra draft picks and possibly also a bit more salary cap flexibility if there are players we're trying to bring in.

Such moves would evolve and be fairly mutual - might start with the club talking to the player and their agent about whether they would be open to being traded away (and that would be a spectrum - from 'only if an amazing offer came forward' to 'we need to shed players and think you're a good candidate'), then the agent goes exploring with other clubs, interested clubs come back and express their interest to the current club etc.

So, money for JD last year and Crouch this year not spent we have $$$'s to spend.

FWIW, I would be happy to give Jesse H a chance. We've proven that it can work out when you take a maturing young man away from bad influences, careers and champions can be made.

I would also be happy to throw a few bucks at Paddy if HE wants to give it a go. I get all the medical concerns but he's a big man and with expert opinion approval, can make his own mind up.

Don't think there would have been any money reserved for JD. The request to come to the Swans last year came from him, and was very late. Maybe they'd reserved some for Crouch if your scenario is accurate, and when he stayed in Adelaide it may have then been earmarked for JD. I can't see us being cashed up with the big Bud still on our list and big contracts to Kennedy, Parker, Isaac and Mills.

I'm not sure that offloading those two was such a mystery. Hanners was being paid as an elite midfielder but was no longer able to perform at that level due to injuries. Rohan was highly paid given the spasmodic performances that he gave us and his questionable finals record. I liked both players but it made sense for us at the time to move on those two players as our golden era had come to an end.

Are you saying that BC and Don Pyke don’t get on? Either C wouldn’t play with P or P had some information that squashed the deal?

That does make some sense, and it implies the recruitment of Pyke was relatively sudden, which it may have been.

It's not be time to top up with mid career players, but it's also not the time to let go of our players in their mid 20s, like Aliir. We don't want to become an even less experienced team. It's time to grow up.
