From regularly listening to the "Road to the Draft" podcast, I get the impression that there are good relationships built between most recruitment teams with conversations happening regularly. In non-Covid years, they share the sidelines of many underage games and have their own little family of scouts and analysts. Information is shared because it can help both parties having more certainty. From what I understand, this is especially true at the top of the draft and less so as the draft progresses due to live trading with picks in the latter parts of the first round onwards changing hands. Therefore, I do believe that clubs can take calculated risks estimating with some confidence what players each club is considering. It is why many phantom drafts are relatively accurate when looking at the first 10 picks.
Obviously, nothing is certain and so risks need to be considered. However, in the long run, it doesn't do Hawthorn any favours by creating bad relationships with Sydney. Last year, we publicly said that we weren't interested in Tom Green and that is what happened. If Hawthorn make similar conversations publicly or privately then I think the Swans would be inclined to believe them.
Again, however, I will reiterate that I'd prefer to keep pick 3.
You may also be right that there may be some gentlepersons' agreements going on out there between recruiters.
I think we shouldn't trade down from pick 3Comment

Ladham was involved in a covid breach in August (had a party after a win I believe ) and may not be seen in as bright a light as we see him. In the article I read it mentioned his committment to being a professional footballer which suggest it was much more than just the breach as the only attitude issue.Comment

As a ruckman yes. I wonder how badly Port want Aliir. If Hayes is as good as some have said, then I'd be happy to swap AA for Hayes and a lowly pickComment

On SEN they have been saying all day we are the only club so far interested in Hogan. I hope not; he has list clogger stamped across his forehead.Comment

Collingwood are in all sorts of trouble. 7 year contract for Grundy, 4 years still to go on Treloar's contract back ended, De Goey after the big bucks to re sign and the Dayne Beams contract still on the books for a few more years. I hope we don't offer someone from another club a long contract. A few years back there was wide criticism of long contracts, but now it seems the norm.

I listened to the draft radio for a few minutes which is about all I can stomach from those clowns. Sos and Damo think we'll take Denver Grainger-Barras at our first pick as a replacement for Reg and don't see picking up Paddy McCartin. I know Denver is supposed to be the best tall defender, but I'd be a little underwhelmed with using pick 3 on our defense which I think is pretty good and holds up in most matches.Comment

A cheaper ruck option for us to consider than those previously mentioned would be Steph Martin. He is out of contract at Brisbane and gettable. He is a good ruckman albeit getting old. Our version of Mummy. He probably has a year or two left in him and he would cost us nothing apart from his salary.
Brodie Grundy would be a great get but too expensive. Either of those Port racks sound good but what do we need to give up? Again, probably too much!Comment
