That's a very interesting proposition. Schache seems expendable, since they're getting JUH in the draft. But will Schache ever fulfill his potential? I think it's worth pursuing. We would probably need to give them a 2nd rounder + Ronke.

From the Bulldogs perspective, they would go into next season with KPFs Naughton, JUH and Josh Bruce. I thought Bruce was very disappointing this year and JUH may be the next Buddy Franklin, but will still only be a kid. So the Dogs might feel that they're a bit light up front for the next couple of years without Schache, even though things look very bright a few years out.

Also, Schache left Brisbane crying for his mummy, so maybe he can't leave Victoria without falling apart.

I would also ask if North are interested in Ronke + pick 3 for their pick 2.

i am a massive supporter of mental health............i have been a lifeline counsellor for 20 yrs

I have trouble imagining that any sports psychologist would recommend that Treloar lives in Melb 2000kms from his baby daughter and rock of a wife for 10months.

The guy has been struggling for a long time and I find it so difficult to understand being away from your baby daughter and wife for 10months ?

There are a few layers to this puzzle and maybe Collingwood are within their right to say "is this in your best interest?"

Schache's problem is he is not up to to AFL standard. Why try to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear?

Got to wait until the FA compo picks are settled before we all know who has what picks.

I wonder if we're really keen on a player at 3 (4 if Crouch unbelievably gets the Crows pick 2) or whether we might be open to something like

trading 3 to the Crows for what is currently pick 8, to cover Campbell bid likely before then, plus pick 20 which is first pick in the second round allowing us to select a player there before matching Gulden or if he drifts we get to use 20 plus our own pick 23 as well. No first round deficit next year.

Lots of ways to do this

Crows are in the strongest position to also snare the Dogs pick 12 for later picks totaling more points. They could potentially have pick 1, 2, 4, 13, nice start to a rebuild.

Crows want at least 5 picks inside the top 25. There is talk of the Bombers (or poss GW$) packaging up 6&7 for pick 2.

I really really hope Crows don’t get pick 2 for Crouch. He is NOT worth it.

Josh Schache, Tom McDonald, Peter Wright, Oscar McDonald are all players who are pretty tall and handy without being the number one choice.
But we certainly cannot afford anyone this year unless they are delisted by their teams.
Josh Schache probably has more upside if he has the right attitude which I doubt as he has now aged with two coaches. Having said that Luke Beveridges team may not have the best forward set up. But writing is on the wall for him.
Tom McDonald probably strong and would make an impact at swans if Buddy is back but we cannot afford him.

Yep, plundered of their untried ruckman, the whole club would have collapsed.

Was also a number 2 draft pick. A cautionary tale of why top draft picks don't always give you the keys to the next Ferrari....

Recent tall forwards who were viewed as top prospects in their underage year and were selected in the first handful of picks in the draft include:
                    - Patton
                    - Boyd
                    - Schache
                    - Hogan (technically taken as a mini-draft player but that was kinda equivalent)

Injuries haven't been kind to this group of players, but (arguably apart from Patton) that doesn't fully explain why none has reached the predicted stratosphere. Just goes to show how hard it is to find a top line tall forward, regardless of how high a draft pick you have.

You could probably throw Daniher into that group too, given he'd likely have been taken in the first couple of picks had he not been a father son option. He has at least shown he can play to a high standard - when his body allows him to.

If Ronke is to be traded, it would be for a draft pick, not as a broader deal that doesn't get us more points. (Edit: more points after our first pick.)

Such a trade could be anywhere from a late second-round pick to a mid third-round pick, which would get us close enough to gain the rest of the points we need by some swapping of picks.

If North were stupid enough to swap their pick 2 for our pick 3 and Ronke, we’d be mad not to take it.

The state of play as I see it:

We nominally hold pick 3, 22, 52, 56, 76, 94 (though the last pick doesn't count as we have only delisted five players).
We intend to draft Campbell and Gulden.
We need to acquire another ruckman and a tall forward.
We would like to take pick 3 to the draft.
Campbell may be drafted around pick 10, Gulden around pick 20.

To do all of that, we are about 600 draft points short, before we add a ruckman to the list.

Some have speculated on trading down pick 3 to get more points. I have been one that has engaged in this speculation, but only to explore the possibility; I don't believe we should do this if we have a choice. We should look at other options.
Possible ways of acquiring more points:
                            * Trade a player such as Ronke for a third-round pick.
                            * Trade down pick 22 in a trade that gives us more points.
                            * Have side deals in place with Port Adelaide, Western Bulldogs and North Melbourne that can become live pick trades on draft night. Port Adelaide and Western Bulldogs may have surplus picks to offload if their prospects are drafted later than they expect. North Melbourne may be interested in acquiring unneeded late picks.

We have only delisted ONE player off our main list (Stoddard). The draft is for players for our senior list. Delisting rookies does not free up senior list spots. BTW Pick 94 carries no points to use anyway as does pick 72
Those who have the greatest power to hurt us are those we love.

If we can't find a suitable ruck addition for 2021 should we persist with AA and sinkers?

If so would a potential DFA like Oscar McDonald be peanuts but a solid solution for our backline rotation ?
