Of all those realistic in the mix for pick 3, Thilthorpe is the most likely to be in our R1 team. Our lack of ruck / key position forward options would suggest he would walk straight into the team. Sinclair / Thilthorpe / Aliir ruck combo would negate the need for Hickey.

Given we will be getting Gulden and Campbell, we will be overstocked with midfield options. So if it all lines up, maybe Thilthorpe is our player if still available at 3, although I do like the sound of Hollands and Phillips. If we take 3 to the draft, we are going to get ourselves a very promising player one way or another, unless we use it on a roughie (which I really hope we don't without splitting it).

I like Thilthorpe as well, bu fear that Adelaide will take him with pick 1, given he's a local kid. So McDonald moves to pick 2 for North. Even if the McDonald goes to Adelaide, I think North will take Thilthorpe , with a slight chance to take Hollands. Not a given, but seems the most likely scenarios.

Hollands may not be the power forward we want, but he could be a very good half forward, breaking lines, setting up play and kicking goals. We could have a brigade of these kinds of players. Could work well. Who know? You can't get enough of skills and speed and I hear is a pretty tough physical type as well.

Hollands has that X factor , I really hope he is the one we get . I think if he hadn’t done his knee he would be the standout number 1 .

Let's say both forwards are taken. We determine we don't really need anymore defenders or mids. I wonder if we would trade pick 3 for one of Essendons 1st rounders (?7) plus a 2nd. With that, we could get Nikolas Cox, then use the 2nd for matching, therefore not going into deficit. Or if an early pick on Campbell came, use 7 on him, 2nd rounder on a young ruck with the rest of our picks on Campbell.

I only suggest this given our history on picking a roughie, most probably due to us being conscious of the go home factor and trying to get players who are a good cultural fit. Just feel if we used pick 3 on anyone outside the accepted top 5, it would be a bit of a waste. Better to maximise its value in other ways if that's where we go.

Sorry should be "with the rest of our picks on Gulden"

I think we are building nicely , we have a chance of recruiting 3 players that in time should be walk up first 22 in pick 3 , Campbell and Gulden . Another 12 months to 2 years of development in our young players Buddy’s contract will be done . We can resign the young ones we want to keep and then hit the trade period with a war chest to recruit the missing pieces . Exciting times

If Adelaide are likely to take Thilthorpe anyway ( and are confident North won’t pick him ) I wonder whether we could try to find a way to trade for the 1 pick with the crows so we could take MacDonald ? From all reports he’s going to be pretty special, and is a definite positional need for us. Would be tough considering we need to match the academy bids but could be worth looking into.

Our Pick 3 and our future first rounder for pick 1 and 20.

Snag MacDonald and the academy boys, pick 20 helps reduce the points deficit.

My understanding is that the 2021 draft could be really special, no one it seems wants to trade out of the early rounds.

Except Pies who have Daicos the younger as a F/S touted as pick 1 so they'll trade their 2021 first for good picks this year.

                      Grundy and 2020 2nd

Be that as it may , we’ve invested heavily in the draft and will do again this year. At some point we have to have our eyes a bit more firmly on what we can get now as opposed to next year. If we could get a highly rated key forward like McDonald I could live with no first rounder next year.

Makes Nick Blakey look like Arnold Schwarzenegger! Would want a year or two in the gym I would think before he's ready to start.

All quiet on the West Coast front, and D Barrett thinks we are up to something or someone big, like Mason Cox!

Well that almost guarantees we aren’t going after anybody then , DB’s hunches are nearly always very wrong.

I expect in a couple of years we'll be a couple of good players short of being a strong premiership contender, and cashed up with a shopping list. Offer it, and they will come.
You can add a reduction in JPK salary, finally getting rid of Reid, and with luck a full scale cull of all of the project players Beatson has brought in.

We should have a couple of million to waste on another Tippett who doesn’t perform!
