A new minimum base salary category to be added for any player who has previously been Primary Listed and is subsequently Rookie Listed.

This new salary category appears to be a deterrent for delisting players and redrafting them as rookies. Something that we might be considering with a player like Foot who is yet to hear his fate. What is not clear is how much higher this new base salary is.

Please God no DGB...watch that “highlights” clip carefully. He takes a few good grabs without an actual opponent and he is a shocking kick...even the 30m cross the HB line kicks the receiver always has to move as not one kick (that I recall) went directly to where it was supposed to go. Exactly the type we don’t need. It’s extremely simple...Thilthorpe is obviously extraordinary and exactly the type and size we need. Assuming he is gone then we have the chance to get a Dusty/Danger/Fyfe/Judd type player who is almost always required for a premiership. We had Adam Goodes once. Watch Hollands’ highlight reel again and then tell me you would take DGB without puking

I saw the highlights for DGB and thought the same thing. No pressure kicks going a bit away from a unmarked player always worry me. But the highlights package is a small portion of the entire match. If his work ethics are good to get into the spots that he can get an intercept mark or even a spoil, it may mean he is a very good player. Not many excellent defenders have elite kicks. They just have to make sure they take the right choice. Highlights wouldnt let us know if he makes the right choice with his disposals or not. Again he needs to play in the system and understand the system if he gets chosen on his ability to defend
Dane Rampe is excellent defender with elite kick.
I would trust KB to make the right choice depending on our team needs.

That is an extremely passionate point of view based on a highlights package. Have a read of this from people who have watched full games: Denver Grainger-Barras - Aussie Rules Draft Central

Absolutely and yes I had read those opinions. He’s no game changer and we have the chance to get one. I’m desperate for us not to stuff up our first pick again

Draft Central has us going for a midfielder, Will Phillips.

                  Big draft questions
                  * Who will Adelaide take at No.1?
                  * Who is coming with a rush?
                  * Where will the bids come?
                  * How many picks will there be?
                  * Who could be trading picks?

I'm happy with Will Phillips, can't see any downside to him

But for all our pontificating on here, the club knows so much more than us, they will make the correct call, we hope :-)

On the subject of picks, have a look how many late picks in Brisbane's hand, 25 they will use but 53, 58, 63, 68, 69 are point bearing picks they won't use!

Doesn’t Braeden Campbell possess some of the same attributes as Hollands? A line breaker and I’ve seen his described as the best kicking draftee ever,

I really have no idea. Can someone please explain why high draft picks are taken on a “best available” basis and lower ones for needs?

And what that means for our pick 3.

Probably because if you're after a KPF for instance, at your pick the next one on rankings could be rated 10-15 picks further out so you take best available rather than massively over paying for a draftee that could be a bust. A big difference from say pick 3 to pick 15 but further out the rankings are more rubbery and the picks less valuable.

For our pick 3, it means because we need everything, KPF/KPD/ruck/mids, we'll take the best player out of DGB, Hollands, Phillips, Thithorpe depending on who goes at 1 & 2.

WILL PHILLIPS HIGHLIGHTS | 2020 AFL Draft Prospect - YouTube

This is an extended package for Phillips and wow, it’s pretty bloody impressive. He’s tough, quick , uses it well by hand and foot, and wins contested ball at will. Tackling machine and tough to tackle to boot.

Would walk straight into our starting side next year and would complement our young midfield mix well. Phillips and Rowy the contested beasts (although not plodders) , Stephens & Campbell inside /outside hybrids with elite foot skills, gulden the outside accumulator, Blakey and J MAC the outside flyers with foot skills. I’ve probably missed some but that looks like a really good mix and a relatively quick midfield unit. Hollands would also add nicely to the mix as an explosive big bodied forward / mid.

Sure we need talls and if one of the top two rated are available it will be a tough choice, but we’ve got a pretty great opportunity to build a pretty special engine room that should serve us well into the future.

We've got defence covered, especially with McCartain there and Fox having a mini break out season. Throw in a (hopefully) rejuvenated Melican, Rampe and Brand, and things look pretty good.

Up forward, we can play 2 of Buddy, Reid and McCartain with Amartey and McLean as backup. With all that in mind, and the strong likelihood that JUH, Thilthorpe and McDonald will all be gone by 3, I really want us to take Hollands. Around 190cm, skillful, ready to play and make an impact as a tall(ish) target at HF.

Best players has also been described by KB that they tend to be able to adapt to some other roles ie Mills
