Paddy McCartin has been cleared by 2 specialists (non-club aligned). He is a risk worth taking, albeit I wouldn't expect miracles from him. He was devoid of confidence and looked lost as a forward once the concussions became a real issue. Given his age, he would essentially be a free hit who may turn out well. Given our propensity to go for somewhat speculative picks in the last couple of years (Thurlow, Brand, Hickey and Gray spring to mind), I would much rather take a punt on Paddy then not.

I think Fox wouldn't have been delisted in a "normal" year and if the Swans didn't finish 16th. Kinnear B did say on Road To The Draft words to the effect that getting pick 3 reflected failure. You have to take a pretty brutal look at your list and where improvement is going to come from after the worst finish in twenty odd years.Comment

The verdict is in. He's already pleaded guilty. The next hearing is for sentencing and is scheduled for 2 December, a week before the draft. I'm sure the Swans will be filing some kind of report regarding the sentence, which I would imagine to be supportive of a non-carceral outcome. We are probably not taking any action on his case as not to influence the sentencing negatively. I would think what the Swans say they plan to do with ET will have an impact on the sentence. I don't know if he gets a paroled sentence he can travel outside of WA, which would be difficult playing for the Swans.Comment

* Sydney gains more draft points.
* Carlton improve their position in this year's draft.
* Gold Coast trade out a pick they weren't going to use this year for a pick that could be useful next year."Unbelievable!" -- Nick Davis leaves his mark on the 2005 semi finalComment

Goes missing in games, has attitude problems. Has had a few few good games against Sydney and that is all. He has some talent but is not worth the punt.
Furthermore, I think that a player who cant hold down a position in the league's worst team certainly tells you something is drastically wrong with his ability to play in the AFL.Comment

Why would we do that when; 1) there’s a very good chance that that pick would get swallowed up by a potential bid from Hawthorn on Campbell, and 2) next years draft is considered to be a super draft? Super drafts don’t come around very often.Comment

[QUOTE=bloodspirit;807949]Yep, we've traded pick 31 for picks 37 & 48. Carlton took our pick 31 and gave pick 48 plus future third; then we on-traded Carlton's future third for pick 37. Clear win.
We now have picks 34, 37, 43, 48, 60, 82. I wonder if any of the 30s picks is good enough to attract any other club to trade for them so we can further increase our points.
I think this diminishes whatever uncertainty lingers about whether we'll draft Gulden if the bids for him and Campbell come high. It's almost a sure thing, we'll draft them both. By trading far back there is no practical alternative for what to do with the points.
I don't think its a certainty at all that we draft Gulden. Ignoring pick 3, we presently have 1851 points. Campbell will not slip past pick 7 (I have it on good authority that Dodoro will bid on him then) which amounts to 1644 points. Which will leave approximately 207 points which is akin to pick 55. So this is certainly not a fait accompli.Comment

It may well have the potential to be a super draft but don’t forget a lot of talent will get snapped up in the mid year drafts as well

North: 11 delisted, 2 traded. 4 traded in.
Sydney: 9 delisted, 1 traded. 1 traded in.
Hawthorn: 3 delisted, 1 free agent, 5 retired. 2 traded in.
A lot of list culling is normal for clubs finishing near the bottom.
I was surprised that Fox didn't make the cut. Fox isn't alone though: other clubs have had to make hard decisions due to the reduction in list sizes."Unbelievable!" -- Nick Davis leaves his mark on the 2005 semi finalComment

We can always pull the trigger on a live pick trade if we need more points. The Suns still have pick 27 and Sydney could swap that for a future 2nd round pick if needed."Unbelievable!" -- Nick Davis leaves his mark on the 2005 semi finalComment

[QUOTE=Thunder Shaker;807972]You're forgetting that matching bids on Academy or F/S players attracts a 20% discount. 1644 points reduces to 1315.2 points, and that would leave 535.8 points - about pick 29 with a 20% discount.

(Can anyone explain to me how we can delist Gray when he is contracted? Are we obliged to rookie him?)
Fox is unlucky. I said the other day I thought he was in the best 22 of the current, pre-draft, squad. They've backed Ling and Gould over him, which is fair enough. Massive pre-seasons for both those guys. I think if O'Riordan had been out of contract, they'd have kept Fox and delisted COR, who I can't see playing much next year. Brand is a bit different, since he's a genuine tall.
It does suggest Tom McCartin is seen as a defender (great) and I imagine we'll rookie his brother (good).
Ok with other delistings. Foot looks a bit short and Thurlow provides depth we can't afford.Comment
