SEN suggests for us: Trengrove, McCartin. for others: Daw, Jetta, McCarthy, Matera, Polson, Savage, Wood.
Fairfax suggests: Savage, Daw, Scharenberg, Phillips
Zero hanger: Ahern, Dunkley, Macmillan, Matera, McCarthy, Shaw!
None of those get me too excited except McCartin (concussion aside) and Wood, but I know most on here think that would be a mistake. Oh and Eggmolese-Smith would be worth a punt, not sure we need him.Comment

I'm thinking he's coming to the Swans too. Even if he is a key defender, if he turns out like Jeremy McGovern he'll be a great pick. It will just mean that Tom McCartin most likely ends up playing forward, which is okay by me.Comment

I think DGB thinks he's coming to the Swans. He used the magic word 'competitive' in the interview to get on the good side of the coach. And his name isn't Elijah.

McCartin might stay in the back line next year if Buddy and Reid are both playing, but when DGB is ready to play senior footy, someone has to go out. I would figure longer term we would go with DGB, Melican and Gould as the key talls in a post-Rampe era. That's probably 3-5 year off, so plenty of time to work things out and surely there will be lots other list changes before that time comes. It's just of many possible scenarios.Comment

DGB: 194 cm.
Rampe is a little undersized for a KPD and DGB can help out with that.
DGB is listed as being "194m" tall on Kevin Sheehan's top 40 prospects. Now that's a tall defender."Unbelievable!" -- Nick Davis leaves his mark on the 2005 semi finalComment

Just a quick note, the reason why we would bid on JUH is to push back the bids before Campbell, not because we believe we could have him.
Every spot back helps us, and I know Essendon will bid on a few players just out of spite.
With any luck they may forget to screw us until say pick 10, a huge help for us.doof-doofComment

But Franklin and Reid are already on their last legs.

I actually think what it means is that we are in much greater need in the long term for a Logan McDonald than we are a DGB.Comment

Good points. I just really like McCartin playing behind the ball and from the interviews I’ve heard from Gardiner, Beatson, Harley, and Longmire they’ve all mentioned how well Tom played when moved back.

I don't really have much doubt that if McDonald is available we'd take him - but I seriously doubt he will be. The question is whether we'd take DGB over Thilthorpe or Hollands. If we do, we'd still have a reasonably significant KPF problem. Paddy McCartin would be a stop gap/long shot, but it'll cost us somewhere down the line.
Thilthorpe probably fits the bill, but I worry about his durability.Comment

It’s suggested Swans would add P McCartin as a supplemental selection in January next year. Possibly because ...

Sydney is free to select former No.1 pick Paddy McCartin as a free agent as he moves a step closer to a contentious return from severe concussion symptoms.
But the AFL would consult with Sydney’s doctors over his medical fitness and the league would need to give the final tick of approval before he was able to play an AFL game.Comment

Would be a waste of Pick 3 to get DBG.
Our best key defenders have come from the rookie draft or astute trading - Grundy, Richards, Bolton, Rampe, Barry etc.
The best key forwards have often come from early in the draft - Riewoldt, Buddy, Pavlich, Roughead, Hawkins (FS), Cameron (zone selection).Comment
