There's going when it's your time to go for a contest. And knowing you cannot impact the result of the contest and holding back. Or using your body to protect the head more effectively.
If he can get the balance right, he'll be a great player for a long time.
On a pessimistic note, Tom also has a habit of letting himself be open to head knocks and has had a few already. Hope this can be rectified but may prove difficult.

I REALLY hope we do this. And I hope the player we pick up is Henry Walsh, BOS at Carlton.

They would only be doing that if they were "winning" the trade :-)

As for the GC pick, they and we would have to weigh up whether pick 6 in this draft will land a better player than pick ? next year. We are already missing a 2021 third rounder so under AFL rules can't trade our first unless we replace the 2021 third. That will probably stop it being thought about.

I did a quick run through of the draft moving picks up after bids were matched. If JUH is matched at pick 2, we have enough points for Campbell at pick 9 and Gulden at pick 19 plus still have pick 54. I reckon we're fairly safe. My feeling is Dodo will take two players at 7 & 8 then bid on Campbell at 9 just to keep us honest.

Dogs 26 and GWS 29 & 52 swapped picks to move GWS up a few spots and the Dogs sufficient picks to just cover a JUH bid at pick 1.

Only teams we could do a swap with now for more points and potentially a better late pick are 34 to Hawks for 46 & 49 or 34 to Brisbane for 53, 58, 66, 68, 69 that they probably won't use anyway. All those traded in picks will move up 1-8/9 places by the time we use them. Fascinating draft this one, a draft for the mathematically minded :-)

An interesting idea. The only problem with it is the picks we would have left by that stage would be right at the end of the draft, somewhere in the mid 50s. That is not an argument against the idea, just an indication of where a fourth Sydney pick would be likely to end up.

If Sydney are considering this, the best players to look at would be Victorian talls. They have played little game time this year and some quite decent players could still be available.

Think there will be unused picks at the end of the draft, if a suitable player is still available.

Well done Annie, trawling the gossip columns or do you have inside info? :-)

That type of news, just stick it where ever it will get read, perfect here in the draft thread.

Draft news in nineteen years time. Swans forward coach, Lance Sr, and gun academy recruit, Lance Jr, look forward to working closely with each other. Hawthorn and Collingwood put out statements, saying how grossly unfair it is, that the Swans could access such talent, after winning the previous year's premiership.

My current draft board based on heck-knows-what (I certainly haven't watched them play - I haven't even watched footage of them playing apart from the highlight packages) - maybe vibe and our needs:

                          JUH
                          McDonald
                          DGB
                          Hollands
                          RT
                          Phillips

I think it's just that with McDonald and DGB I feel like I know what we're going to get - and it's good and it's what we need. Those two also seem a little bit more mature than RT. With Thilthorpe and Hollands, I'm less confident in what I see. Just thought I'd share that. I'm sure you're all keen to know my thoughts.
All opinions are not equal. Some are a very great deal more robust, sophisticated, and well supported in logic and argument than others. -Douglas Adams, author (11 Mar 1952-2001)

Haha. Happy to hear your thoughts. I've seen a little bit of vision particularly the Australia U17s game vs New Zealand and the All Star Game on GF day 2019 but not much else. Hollands stood out in those games so it is a pity he did his knee as he would either definitely being coming to us or he would give a greater chance for McDonald to get pushed back. Phillips was also pretty damn good in those games but I guess it is always easier for the midfielders to shine in one off exhibitions.

I do think the draft is always a bit of a "the grass is always greener" concept. It doesn't matter who we take, we will have a bit of FOMO at the ones we didn't take. I agree that McDonald and DGB seem a "safer" bet with clear positions. It is funny to think, though, that if either of them were Victorian, it is highly possible that they would be more later 1st round choices. It is only that they have played at senior level all year and played well that they have risen to the pointy end.

Any of these players would be good to choose, though JUH shouldn't be included in the list because there's no chance Sydney will draft him: the Bulldogs have a boatload of picks to match a bid at pick 1, and a bid at pick 3 would inevitably get matched.

McDonald and DGB are both very good players. DGB has had the better of McDonald when they have played on each other. McDonald would be a very handy forward, whereas DGB would be more like a secret weapon in defence.

RT is an interesting one. He's already of a good size, no real need to have him spending five years in a gym while eating a protein-rich diet, he's there already. Would he be a ruck who also plays forward, or a forward who can play in the ruck? That's unclear.

Hollands and Phillips are both interesting. Hollands is a slightly better player, but Phillips is a future club captain.

The only other player to consider would be Tanner Bruhn, as he has been highly rated by KB. However, he's one of the second tier of good players in this draft.
