Are the AFL going to tell WCE & Freo not to start non contact training due to vic clubs not being allowed to? Because like I’ve said previously they have no jurisdiction over anything that can overrule government legislators. Especially not in WA. They can’t “blackmail” them like some suggest they would to NSW clubs.

Precedent has been set and when NSW allows League players to train together so can Sydney & GWS.

And when it comes to WA there would have been a good amount of WA players that play for Melbourne clubs that are back home for the restrictions.

Instead of acting like petulant children maybe some Melbourne clubs administrators could try to facilitate group training sessions these players.

I'm not sure why Harley is so vocal about NSW and in particular the SCG as the eastern suburbs are a covid -19 hot spot.

Because I think he knows that Melbourne may be the “hub” for finals. So is trying to obtain at least a small advantage for some small part of the season instead of no advantage at all.

I used to watch the 16 a side VFA back in the day (no wings) it was good open footy and with basically a 6-4-6 set up, centre clearances were uncluttered and general play more open and dynamic. Ignoring the fact that they weren't quite as talented as the then VFL players and spent a lot of the game trying to kill each other, it was an entertaining brand of footy.????

Please no 16 a side footy. My recollection was it was rubbish. This 16 a side chestnut comes up almost every year. It didn't last then and it won't happen again.

In a just completed interview on ABC, Queensland premier, Annastacia Palaszczuk, was asked if the NRL had contacted her about restarting their season. She said yes, but then added that another code had got in before them. When questioned whether that was AFL, she chuckled and said, "Could be".

Immediately that was being interpreted as AFL restarting and using the Gold Coast as a hub. Not sure if that could be regarded as a definite, but either that or South East Queensland, does make sense. Very little, if any, recent coronavirus infections; a lot of quality accommodation facilities, currently laying idle; and possibly enough grounds with nearby gyms for training.

On paper, the gold coast make a lot of sense because of accomodation options. Queenslands climate also allows Carrara and gabba grass to grow quickest.
Seems logical, but won't happen.

This is what I’ve heard mostly from people who lived through it. A lot of people have just had enough of congestion. The tinkering will not fix this issue and we’ve heard the let it evolve argument for a fair while now. And it keeps evolving to a more defensive game.

Covid-19 gives the game a chance to change back to what it was meant to be. A one on one free flowing game with contests that was worth the price of admission by itself.

In approximately 2 weeks the NT will be officially virus free.

What will be interesting is they will have crowds for the NTFL season.

End of next month SA & possibly ACT could be in the same situation if trends continue.

Will their Australian Football competitions have crowds before the AFL does?

The AFL should consider working with Foxtel so that people who have paid their clubs membership should get at least a reduced rate or free. So they get to see their sides games or supporters might ask for a membership refund to pay for a subscription. Thus reducing the income of their club.

You shouldn’t have to double dip to support your side.

I like the idea of a truly second tier national competition devoid of any influence from current afl clubs but I think deep down what they’re really talking about is relegating current second tier clubs like Norwood, South Fremantle, Port Melbourne, Southport to third tier clubs. And starting up a reserves national competition via the current AFL clubs.

This is where I come back to the laughable blackmail thing regarding NSW clubs training.

The AFL’s clout is gone. They don’t hold the wip hand anymore. All bets are off. Clubs and states actually get a say now.

It’s why Adelaide imo have refused any help from the AFL financially. They’ve obtained a loan themselves. They don’t want the commission telling them what to do anymore.

A lot of the VFA grounds were a lot smaller than today's AFL venues, so we might end up reducing congestion too far if you see what I mean. End up with something like an AFL Allstars exhibition match.
I agree with the late great Don Jolley, drop the whole benefit-of-the-doubt-non-decision nonsense, that's what's generating most congestion.

The German Bundesliga looks like being the first major European football league to resume. They're planning a May 9th start; although this is yet to be ticked off by the government. They are saying that a maximum of 300 people, will be allowed in for each match. I don't think that this includes any fans: more like players, coaches, support staff, media, TV production staff, etc.
