SA Premier in this mornings press saying SA won't allow FIFO from other state's teams that still have high infection rates but ok for Crows and Port to FIFO to those states under strict bubble rules whilst they're travelling and interstate.

Looks like WA and SA teams playing all their early games interstate then having a "Richmond" run to (not Tiger like through) the finals.

First thing Gill should do is get Eddie off all these working groups. He shouldnt have been on the MCG deal one, and he shouldnt be on the Covid-19 response one. He does not work for the interest of all teams.

The AFL's administration's problem is they are prepared to sell integrity to the highest bidder. They sell the grand final to the MCG for 50 years because the victorian government give them such a great financial deal that no other state could match. A strong leader would reject the dollars. There is likely more $$ is selling the grand final to the highest bidder as they do for US Sports if they really wanted $$.

The biggest issue regarding the MCG contract renewal is that there had not been one “working group” analysing whether more money could be made out of the GF getting bid on.

Not one sentence to illustrate why financially the GF should be at the MCG.

Tried to manufacture a race to match the Melbourne Cup and all he got was a billionaires sweepstakes that has zero public interest despite the support of right wing nutters like Alan Jones who thinks if you throw enough money at something you can create tradition. If it hadn’t been for Winx most people wouldn’t know that NSW racing existed.

And most people regard the NRL as a running joke. They are technically insolvent at the same time as the AFL has a 700 million dollar asset in docklands. Thus the haste for the NRL to start playing regardless of risks

Can’t really judge who’s done the best job until the end of each season.

I’d say NRL in front atm due to getting started about a month earlier. It is a huge advantage though I must admit. 1 month of basically having the Australian sporting landscape to itself is a massive advantage going forward. There’s no pre-season games to get the public talking AFL. Nothing. It’s basically a dead 4 weeks for the code.

Both have had their covid-19 issues.

Imo we’ll know after each GF. Both will chest thump pulling out BS figures but if you put away your love for your particular code deep down you’ll know which did best.

I wasn't aware there was a race between the codes over which of them could do stupid stuff the earliest, but there probably is.
And as a sometimes gambling man, my money would always be on the NRL. It's one of their mission statements.

Vlandys has got NSW racing off the death bed, and will always have a dig at Victorian racing (the big brother in this situation) whenever he can. Most people outside of Victoria couldnt care less if the Melbourne cup moved date temporarily. We use it as a social occation, and if there is limited socialising, then why bother ?

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say I think NRL will get a month start on the AFL. NRL seem to be executing to a plan, whereas the AFL is still trying to think up a plan. The NRL one seems to be resiliant to any changes in isolation measures (up and down), whereas the AFL one, at present, needs isolation to be relaxed, and stay relaxed. (isolation will be up and down for a while yet)

But what advantage can NRL extract from this extra month really?
If it managed to topple the Gill/Eddie regime, then it will be a positive for AFL.!

I think the point is why should the Melbourne cup carnival move, an event recognised around the globe ( majority of the runners are internationals ) , for the AFL GF , an event recognised only in Australia. Far less upheaval for the AFL to move . Also why don’t they experiment with a twilight or night GF this year if they insist on having it on that date, perfect opportunity to give it a try, the season is already going to go down with a big asterisk anyway. ( I prefer a day GF personally but why not give it a go this year, when other things are being Changed to accomodate the pandemic , interchange numbers , game length etc . )
