The worst part is how its just a given and accepted that it is not a fair competition. Openly spoken about in the media and by officials and players. Not just this year but most years.

“Now is an opportunity for the AFL to actually start with a blank sheet of paper and to determine that they should have a national competition”

Like I’ve said previously to me it’s a national competition only by name. It still is an expanded VFL competition as spoken openly by Tasmanian’s premier Peter Gutwein. Not one of the Vic media cronies questioned it, they just glossed over it as quick as possible. To scared to hear more of the truth.

Bit of an indictment on the competition when you hear that.

The Victorian media will sweep this under the carpet when the season starts.

WA Premier rules out FIFO so WCE and Freo will need to move to Melbourne or Geelong for the foreseeable future.

      Advantage Vic clubs!

Yep. Plus gave them a bit of dressing down when it came to advantages/disadvantages.

2 premiers now giving the AFL a mouthful.

Yes, everything's "acceptable" when the advantages go Collingwood's way. But when he thinks non-Victorian clubs are getting an advantage - academies - he kicks up a stink and complains that he wants "a level playing field."

He didn't think it was unfair, though, when in 2018, the West Coast Eagles who had finished higher on the ladder than Collingwood and had already beaten them in a final had to play Collingwood in the Grand Final on the Pies' home ground!

Every time I listen to McGuire I'm reminded of that quote from George Orwell's "Animal Farm."

"All animals are equal but some animals are more equal than others."

Yes, McLachlan just says nothing. King Kong McGuire is just a racist bully with his snout in the trough. It's a pity McLachlan
allows him to be the voice of the league. Maybe he just agrees with him, and has nothing more to add.

Gill can't win in this situation.

The hub plan would've potentially disadvantaged the ten Victorian clubs, as a Melbourne hub would've been highly impractical given where Victoria is at with it's cases.

The FIFO plan only disadvantages the two WA clubs, everyone else gets to work and play from home. But he is then accused of having a Vic bias for trying to make sure the majority of clubs, including the Vics, can play in their home states.

                Lose/lose for Gill.

Best way forward is to appease the majority. Make the 16 other clubs happy for now, make it up to the WA clubs later on. They can have however many home games in a row that is necessary once their state's border is opened.

The AFL has a terrible history of being reactive instead of pro-active.

Home finals in Melbourne for WCE in the 90’s. Gets highlighted after the games then gets changed.

Brisbane plays Geelong in a prelim final at the MCZg. Their game is classed as a home ground advantage for Brisbane. Gets highlighted after so gets changed.

F/S & academy bidding rules are blatantly wrong. Gets changed after Collingwood get Moore & Sydney get Heeney.

In every industry in the world you run a company with a pro active mindset to eliminate the problem before it happens. The AFL appear to run this company in such an @ss about way.

Gill is the Malcolm Turnbull of footy administration. Nominally in charge but seemingly impotent and beholden to the Victorian 'party" faction.

A great analogy! So who is the Scomo of the AFL? I figure McGuire would be the Dutton, right?

Thats a great analogy. And Eddie McGuire is Baranby Joyce.

First thing Gill should do is get Eddie off all these working groups. He shouldnt have been on the MCG deal one, and he shouldnt be on the Covid-19 response one. He does not work for the interest of all teams.

The AFL's administration's problem is they are prepared to sell integrity to the highest bidder. They sell the grand final to the MCG for 50 years because the victorian government give them such a great financial deal that no other state could match. A strong leader would reject the dollars. There is likely more $$ is selling the grand final to the highest bidder as they do for US Sports if they really wanted $$.

Off topic a bit, but channel 9 are all over the place with the NRL. One minute they say they havent been involved in re-start talks, then next day they have agreed to terms. Then they might walk away from NRL, then want to spend big for the next rights....

Now, I think a lot of it is fox and nine not working together and fox putting out anti-nine propaganda through the News Ltd media channels.

I'm glad Nine arent AFL rights holder.

Nine, Foxtel & the NRL. All of them broke, and still trying to trade when insolvent. With each other. Sort of. It's bound to end well.

SA Premier in this mornings press saying SA won't allow FIFO from other state's teams that still have high infection rates but ok for Crows and Port to FIFO to those states under strict bubble rules whilst they're travelling and interstate.

Looks like WA and SA teams playing all their early games interstate then having a "Richmond" run to (not Tiger like through) the finals.

Roos has a touch of Scomo about him. Can talk underwater.
