I like Sinclair too, but tonight he was horrendous. He’s not a good ruckman , not a good forward, just generally tried his guts out and gives his all. Sometimes beats better ruckman. But we need a better option moving forward.

Tonight was disappointing. Should’ve won that. But kudos to this young side for a brilliant start against a much more mature team playing for their season. They were always going to come, would’ve been nice to hold on but not to be.

Mccartin definitely the highlight. Mcinerney did some good things early, and Florent as well. Dawson sublime.

Not really. They massacred us in the middle. Some crap umpiring gave them some momentum back but we fell in a heap.

Papleys defensive efforts were incredibly disappointing.

Reid and JPK aren’t the players they used to be. The end is coming quickly.

Also forgot Dawson. What a gun. Love the man!
I give JPK benefit of the doubt. I'm fairly certain he isn't anywhere near 100 per cent fit. We should put him out to pasture for the rest of 2020 and get him right for next year. Yes he isn't the player he once was, but I feel he can continue to play a role in mentoring our youngsters, much like Jude Bolton did towards the end.

Sinkers I reckon is done. As for Reid - he is as frustrating as ever. Truly an almost player - had such hopes when he was young about what he could become.

Really happy with how our backline is coping without Rampe however - there is a good group there. Melican's recent improvement and return to form very welcome too - was solid again tonight.

As it often is the case in recent years, I really feel our style of footy - well at least that focused around being a good tackling team, is so poorly rewarded by the umpires, as incorrect disposal is dead, teams are allowed to throw the ball at will, and you have to actually it seems take 3 players on before you get called for holding the ball.
            I knew he would too.

McInerney followed up his RS nom with a solid game, faded a little in the 2nd half.
Hayward was encouraging and I loved his rundown tackles and defensive effort.

The team looked spent in the second half and I couldn't help wonder if that was due to us making no changes for the short break. Surely with another short break we'll see a number of changes for Sunday.
I'm really hoping its almost about to click for 'Hayward'. Still in and out of games, but his last 8 weeks have been increasingly solid.

As for McCartin - I love him up forward, but his reading of the play, willingness to mark the ball and calmness gives him all the hallmarks to be our long term CHB. Superglue his magnet to the whiteboard and start building our future premiership defence around him if you ask me.

That Joey run down in the last was absurd because there were about 4 swans around him and nobody gave him the shout he was hot.
Problem is he is too slow. Florent should never have hand balled to him. He was around on his left foot and should have kicked it forward, but again he makes a very poor disposal decision. I don't get why Kennedy is always at centre bounces. They got back into the game in the 2nd quarter with 3 clean centre clearances for goals. 11 to 6 centre clearances in Carlton's favour and ours were rubbish. Puts so much pressure on our backs but also gives very poor feed to our forwards.

Also, on a wet day your forwards should play in front but our blokes appeared to always be behind.

I have a long memory. Given our history, I am unlikely to live long enough to see us win another three flags (god I hope I do - just seeing 2 makes me so lucky already) - but if I do, I wouldn't be unhappy if one was in a smashing of the wees and poos, another in a umpire assisted thrashing of the fairypuppies, and another in which we drub the scum that is carlton. Can not stand them or their fans - long may they continue to be a nothing mid tier team like they are now. They are no closer imho to a flag now then they were a decade ago...

And what they did in the 90s means they can never be forgiven for mine.... papers marked as scum for all eternity. @@@@ them!!!!

Agree re Hayward - not broken out, but settling. His marking is excellent and defensive pressure is improving. Set shooting is coming back too. Benefited from that spell back.

Lots to like about where we are heading and we seem to be playing at a better standard than our opposition for about 40% of game time this year which is reflectedvin our win loss record. With another offseason in our youngsters and hopefully some judicious trading / drafting should push us past the 50% mark and heading for more glory over the coming years. There were some baffling decisions by the umpires tonight Markwebbos and as such it definitely impacted on the game and warranted discussion especially on a forum such as this which, lets face it, has a slight bias towards the Swans. Good luck getting any footy supporter say that the umpires have no impact on the game whatsoever when the result is within five goals????
I think this year has been more rewarding then some recent years when we made the finals but had no real impact at least this year my expectations were not met with disappointment and being realistic certainly reduces my stress levels.

Fully agree with both of these assessments. Sums up the player performances as I saw it.

Aliir was indifferent as well and didn't do much for us going into the ruck in the 2nd half. I like some things about McLean, but I've always worried about his speed, and is why I would prefer to see Amartey in his spot, if we are going to test out another forward/ruckman.

I don't imagine we have a chance in our final 2 games, so we might as well let it all hang out and play everyone who hasn't gotten a game yet. Most of today's playing group cam take a rest this Sunday.

That game deserved to be a draw. Crap umpiring both ways, chucking abound (mostly by the blues), crap skills. Not much in the way for a pleasurable viewing experience but good intensity.

Positives were Blakey pushing through, Florent having a rejuvenating game, Taylor getting settled (bar his miss), McCartin down back.

McLean, Wicks, Thurlow and Reid very quiet games.
