Does anyone pay attention to inside 50 stats these days? I would assume our coaching staff don't - we must lead the way in opposition I50s these days? That's how we play - we're coached to soak up (maybe even invite?) multiple I50s, so we're pretty much always going to lose that stat aren't we?

I reckon the club would have a more detailed breakdown, as quality is going to be as important as quantity.

I think it’s a high risk “unsustainable” strategy because it relies on our opponents i50s being poor entries.

If entries are well directed we can be scored against heavily.

You are, once again, derailing a thread on some stupid vendetta.

Agreed - I think it's high risk especially with a young, tired team like we were last night.

Trying to keep the thread on track - ie discussing the match.......

Agree it is dangerous. Our defence and its structure is excellent but unless we fix up midfield issues we lay ourselves open to being hammered by top sides.

A lot about umpiring and freekicks, which being the one-eyed Swan I am is probably completely valid, but you should never lose a match when 40 points up at any time.

I've read through much of the post-mortem comments and there are a lot of valid observations made in them. For me, this game crystallised what to like and not to like about the Swans over the past two seasons. On the positive, we have an excellent batch of younger players who are gradually maturing with games. There are around 10 players there who could be part of our next premiership team. They are still inconsistent but the potential and growth is there. On the negative, our Ruck and centre clearances are amongst the worst in the AFL at present.

The way forward is clear to me. Recruit in a strong, seasoned ruckman and gradually boost the midfield. Load up more with the Academy players and draft for the next season or so and then bring in a big name, big money player or two when we are really ready to challenge in 2 years time.

I reckon McCartin was stiff to only get 1 vote. Thought he was the best defender on the park for either team in tough conditions.

Me too. I thought he was better than Lloyd and Florent. Dawson too.

                          I found this interesting.

We lost because we got smashed in clearances and after quarter time the ball was mainly in Carlton’s forward line. They had talls who out marked us and got in front with a few minutes to go as they had the momentum for a long time, and it is difficult for a young team to stop an onslaught. If our lead would have been 39 points at half time instead of in the first quarter, we would have won. The game really showed our weakness in the ruck and our inability in marking contests in our forward line and around the ground- though our defenders did well under the circumstances, especially McCartin and Dawson.

I can't believe anyone is picking on ANZ Stadium. Lewis Jetta, 90M run, 3 bounces, goal, on the way to snapping a 700 game losing

That prelim on a par with 2003 finals win v Port Adelaide and only marginally behind the 2 flags!
