Well, if they continue to show that they know sweet FA about our club and continually display their Vic-centric ignorance, they will continue to be smashed.....and that's fair enough. Isn't it?Comment

Hi all,
Hope everyone has been well. Been nice to escape down the coast for a few weeks while the kids were up in Mt Buller. Pleased for all the NSW folk on here who i'm sure have been longing for a taste of freedom!!
I am thrilled with the recruitment of Peter Ladhams, saddened by the departure of George, and frustrated by the loss of Dawson. So.. a mix of emotions!! But that's the trade period, isn't it?? Maybe not the ideal off season.. i don't think losing JD and having to lose George rather than overpay him were what we wanted out of a brilliant season overall, but i am surprised to see so many Swans fans calling it a failed trade period ?? In years gone by we have lost high quality talent and had nothing come back.. maybe i am optimistic but i have a strong feeling Ladhams will hit the ground running with his second chance. & under Dean Cox of all coaches?? What could be better! So yes disheartening to again be losing talented players, but refreshing to finally be bringing some younger exciting talent through the door too!
With our draft hand, i hope we go for the best tall available.. it seems the WA group is very strong this year.. Is this true?? Any draft watchers out there??
Another minor observation.. Gardiner was asked who he saw replacing Hewett, a solid player known for his defensive and disciplined roles.. His answers? Stephens, Juzzy, The Chad, and Braeden Campbell! All attacking mids.. certainly not the kind JL would be giving "roles" to.. maybe a sign of the times.. the midfield is changing.. be quick, skilful and know how to find the footy, or get out of our way! The rebuild is on. Exciting times ahead! Can't wait to see it all come together! Bring on pre-season already !!

So what's the situation with the remaining out of contract Swans? When do we have to finalise delistings by?
As I understand it Ronke, O'Connor, Clarke, Bell, Wicks and Reid are all out of contract. There was some talk of Bell's contract being extended through a trigger clause but no one has confirmed and there was chat that Wicks was close to signing a 2 new yr deal.
You'd think with Hewett gone, Clarke may get a new deal as depth (esp if Bell goes). Reid could be out the door with Ladhams in and freeing up more salary space for us.
On a sidenote - I hope Taylor gets a shot at seniors this year.Comment

Yep, apparently he is moving out of that penthouse apartment on the beach at Glenelg into the basement studio apartment between the
laundry and the underground car park in the Coogee building (see the links that were posted a few days ago on this thread). He said
it was a bit squeezy but if he lies diagonally across the room he might be able to fit in okay.Comment

Put it this way ; If it's "not right" for Jordan Dawson to leave, then it's "not right" to not give Sam Reid another year. Sure he hasn't turned into
a star and can be frustrating but he's not alone in that dept. He can play anywhere, he's tall, is a good mark and always puts in when he's out
there. He's been a pretty good "average footballer" over the years.
It is no bigger risk then keeping Naismith around (and yes I know he is contracted) or taking a punt on Paddy Mc."You get the feeling that like Monty Python's Black Knight, the Swans would regard amputation as merely a flesh wound."Comment

No, it was a future third rounder, basically a junk pick. We slid only four places in the draft and got a half decent player that could improve a lot with a ruck coach (Port did not have one). IMO, we won that deal. As far as Amartey and McLean go, they have new deals, it's up to them to prove themselves. Competition for spots is always a good thing. As for Reid, does it matter? He can't stay on the park for all his loyalty. Harsh but true....Comment

I assume that Norf did not tell anyone (including us) as to their intentions regarding Dawson should he have walked to the PSD. It would be an interesting thing to know whether we tried to speak to them about him? I would imagine its a form of draft tampering to do that, so they would not admit it publicly, even if they did. Imagine the conversation: "Adelaide ares screwing us over on Dawson. We are seriously considering walking him to the PSD as long as you guys are going to make a play for him. What's your situation regarding this possibility?"
We got the best deal we could get from a club who knew we had to bend over due to Jordan’s conduct. We held no cards to play in reality so the first rounder from the Dees for 2022 could prove useful, especially if they slide a bit!Comment

He also said McLean and Amartey would be focussing more on their forward craft in 2022Comment

My take is if fully fit and playing anywhere near his best, he is still comfortably in our best 22 for mine - so I'd be astounded if we don't offer him one last chance to get the body right. He isn't going to hit the heights we all hoped when he was so good early in his career, but he could well still have more then a minor role to play for the club. And at worst, he can help develop our younger big forwards coming through - just as long as he doesn't teach them anything about kicking for goal.
It is no bigger risk then keeping Naismith around (and yes I know he is contracted) or taking a punt on Paddy Mc.
And on Reid, for a while I've had the hunch, that we would make a further mockery of the rookie list, by placing one of our few remaining premiership players on it. That still seems likely to me. Perhaps too good to throw away, perhaps to injury prone for a regular contract?Comment

I too was impressed with that Gardiner interview. Sure he doesn’t have a sparkling speaking style but who cares? I thought he was measured in his responses but also remarkably forthright, gave a pretty good insight into the club’s thinking during the trade period.Comment
