I think I read somewhere that the Crows haven't nominated BOL as an NGA player in the draft, which would mean they have no right to draft him. Wherever I read that also suggested they were still looking to take him with one of their later picks, or in the rookie draft. I'm not sure I understand the logic in that. If they had nominated him they would have no obligation to match a bid if it came earlier than they wanted to take him. Maybe they are hoping he slips through to the rookie draft, but even there I don't know that they have any priority claim to him.

I guess we all have pundits that we don't mind and others that we dislike. Personally, I quite enjoy listening to what King, Lloyd, Cornes, the 4 guys on On The Couch (Healy, Lyon, Reiwolt, Brown), Carolyn Wilson, Whately and Robbo have to say. Sure, I don't always agree with them, but I respect that they speak without fear or favour and seem well informed. Some of the journalists who seek headlines by saying outrageous things eg Damien Barrett, have less respect from me.
Like Gary Lyon and Gerard Healy.
I highly rated Robert Walls. I liked his old school attitude and how he stucked to his guns. He would get into arguments with Eddie and others and had no room for politics or niceties. It still sends a shiver up my spine when he said late in the 2005 GF with Sydney were holding on for dear life “these blokes are hero’s”. Total appreciation for the effort that both teams were putting in.
His football IQ was very strong and he had strong opinions.Comment

I always wait in anticipation for the next Carolyn Wilson article. She’s brilliant.

Plus, her and Robbo were amongst the first and loudest in calling out the neglect of Adam Goodes by the AFL, and the role some other club Chairs (looking at you, Andrew Newbold) played in it.'Delicious' is a fun word to sayComment

It was callous on Jordan’s part when and how he informed the club of his intensions.
I believe he got it very wrong on 2 counts:
1. By signing a contract for 2 years, he could have played in a team vying for top 4 with an opportunity for a premiership.
2. He could have rented for this period, saved his money and then bought in Adelaide. He would turn 26 then and command close to $800k for next 4 years, if his form remained good, and thus set himself up for life.
Big mistake, Jordan!
We will cover him and with Ladhams coming in, our big man stocks are looking healthy.

Ladhams cost us a slide from 12 to 16 in this years draft which is unlikely to hurt us, and a 2022 third rounder likely to be in the early 50's that we may not have used anyway, given we have two firsts and a second next year.
As a DFA, we can add Paddy McCartin for FREE in any of the DFA periods, we don't need to use a Rookie Draft pick on him.
More trading of 2021 and 2022 picks (not players) can take place right up to and including the last night of the NDComment

As mentioned, Amartey and McLean are likely to get plenty of opportunities. The reality is Buddy is likely to miss some games, McDonald may need a rest at certain points of the season, likewise Hickey.
As much as I've always been a fan of Reid, his body has failed him and it may be that it's time for him to move into retirement. Or return to his roots as a KP back.Comment

Yes, I think a kpd or two will probably be our priority. And like many of us, I think Paddy McCartin should be one of them. Although with the recruitment of Ladhams, that will probably mean that there's little chance of us recruiting the McCartin's cousin, Toby Conway; as I don't think we now have any need to draft another ruckman.
The pick swap in the Ladhams trade probably clarified our situation a little bit more. Most pundits think that Gibcus is the best kpd in the draft, but while I could see him possibly slipping to pick 12 (14 with bids), I can't see him slipping to 16 (18). Likewise, if we were thinking of perhaps replacing Dawson with the skilful kicking and outside run of Wanganeen-Milera. Now, if he's still there at Port's newly acquired pick, I feel pretty sure that they'll take him.
Which leads us deciding whether to take a kpd with our first pick, when the likely options of Bazzo, Van Rooyen and Alleer are rated in the 25-40 range? Or do we go with the best available mid, that's currently rated in the 10-20 range and hope that we can get a decent kpd with our pick 31? My preference would be to go for a kpd with our first pick. Especially if it's Alleer.
Chris Doerre actually has him at 9, while the other pundits have him in the 30s. My inclination is that Doerre's more correct. Alleer is 197cm, fast and an excellent intercept mark.

I also think that the other pundits might be underrating him, because he wasn't picked up in his draft year, by the Crows as a NGA selection. But the simple reason for that, was that he badly broke his leg during that year.
If we do take a kpd with our first pick, it should be best available player with pick 31. Although, if Blayne O'Loughlin is still available, I think we should definitely place a bid: and not just to slightly annoy the Crows. He's been in very good form, we might need a classy small defender, and if for some reason the Crows didn't match, it would be nice to gain the nephew of a club legend. Another family connection that may come into play with that pick, is Chad Warner's brother, Corey. He does appear to be a decent prospect and may be some insurance against the dreaded go home factor.
The Ladhams trade really didn't cost much in real terms.Comment
