Don't really know much about the Egg but you do raise attention to an area in our list that we are deficient in, namely the small defender of the lockdown variety. Our only true good one on the list is Harry. Guys like COR, Fox and Rampe can play small but most probably lack the speed and agility to compete with a Kozzy or Cameron. Lloyd, Blakey, JMac etc are more rebound types. In that sense, I was surprised by our de-listing of Ling. Maybe we might look for a DFA or rookie draftee to add to our small defender stocks. Any suggestions?

      1. Try and lock better players into longer contracts so that if we think they are a real flight risk, then move them on while they still have a year to go. Look at Geelong, they picked up a similar pick to us for trading an unproven player to Freo. The difference was he had one year left on his contract.

      2. Re-sign in-demand guys coming out of contract very early in their final season. Don't let it get to the trade period.
100% agree April- been saying this for a while.

As for those defending he who will not be named- you have been given at least 3 reasons explaining why a lot of us feel betrayed, so feel free to comment on those rather than trotting out the same boring stuff.

And by the way Bangalore, COB and co, we will keep venting until the pain dissipates!

Please do so Stevoswan, I was just welcoming Blue Sun into the "Stevswan thinks I'm disloyal because . . . . " club.
Membership is growing by the way, I'm thinking of having T shirts done.

But seriously, RWO is a broad church, and I for one I'm as happy to read the opinions of the orthadox as I am the heretics.

This is good in theory but much more difficult in practice. Player managers want to get the most value for their players and so it may be in the best interests for them to wait until a contract finishes before re-signing for a club.

It also carries risk. Eg Dan Hannebery, Sam Naismith, Lewis Taylor, Matt Ling. Gold Coast have just salary dumped Will Brodie who they thought would be a star and contracted him accordingly.

You win some, you lose some. I think JD is the first player in a long time that we really truly wanted to keep. Perhaps Zak Jones too but not to the same degree.

'Hear hear' stevoswan! Not all of us are the type's who want to wish our departing players well, especially when they leave us in the way Dawson has and they are a player that we desperately wanted to keep! It comes off to me the same as a supporter who claps good play or a great goal by the opposition! Certainly not my cup of tea....

We are no doubt all passionate supporters on here and I'm the type who shows a bit of anger when things don't go our way! I would hate to think what my neighbours were thinking hearing the screaming coming from my place during the Elimination Final against the Giants... Lol, not to mention my wife and our 2 dogs... Stevo, your on fire today. I haven’t seen such public combativess since Alan Jones stepped down from Radio.

Maybe there is a place for you at 2GB.

Please do not put me in the same sentence as that horrible bigot.....but I'll accept "Stevo is a nicer human than Alan Jones".

As for being on fire, I should maybe avoid RWO straight after I get home from work.

Agreed, AB, but we must give it our best go. I wonder if our final offer to JD had been tabled to him during the pre-season or early in the season rather than at the end whether he would have signed? Its a hypothetical, but I think we have a tendency to make less competitive offers early on in the hope they will accept and leave bigger offers till much later. I'm not sure this is a wise strategy when dealing with players who are attractive to other Clubs? For example, I would be making a strong offer to McDonald now as those pesky WA clubs will be in his ear.

You mean his commission agent. Clubs are not supposed to talk directly to players.

The Injectors special agent was into Bobby Hill a month before he said he wanted out.

I don't know what the value of Dawson would be in finals. As we saw in this final series and we found out in our own finals game, the elite kick does not work. He is good, but the game and the defence is tight, there isn't any space to do what Dawson does with pin point passing. So, yes he would have got us some home and away games but not a commodity that works well in finals. I think we should just ignore him and get a good elite midfielder with burst of speed, line breaking skills with the pick we have got.

It’s not “ having a go at Jordan”. In fact, it’s not saying anything to do with footy.

We can’t now complain about JD and the threat of the PSD. We are a strong successful club. We should cop it sweet.
Sounds like BS to me, BS. Need to compare similar fruits for it have any meaning. I’ve moved on from the above mentioned who shall no longer be named, but there’s obvious flaws in the structure of the PSD that would not be hard to fix & that’s certainly something to complain about until then.
