Looking less and less likely we keep Reid

Maybe there is something in the background. Does he want to stay? Does he want to move back to Melbourne? Are we waiting for any offers? My guess is we will put him on the "Rookie" list as we did with Fox if nothing else happens.

The reason I say this is because Sam has been a good and loyal clubman who has been cruelled by injury, and he hasn't been delisted.

Dawson would be happy to go in pre season draft . North , Pies and Suns arent going to take on a player asking for 700k just so he can leave in a year , would be reckless on their part and would F up their trade relationship with the Crows . He 'll get to Adelaide in the PSD no worries if it gets to that , we need to take whatever we can get from it , dont have much bargaining power here so have to cut our losses

He can also put a price on his head for the pre season draft . So if Adelaide have the cap space he could heavily front end it but North also has the cap space so there’s a risk North could persuade him to join them

Still think we need one more around that size as our backline already is undersized and Dawson was the target a lot for kick outs but hopefully what we seen of Blakey he can fill that void to some degree .
Don’t mind Young but feel he is wasted in the Ruck .

I can see Blakey / Campbell replacing Dawson (although Campbell is somewhat challenged in the height department). Thinking of Young as a defender.

Don’t mind it , we were linked to Sicily awhile back as well . I know he is someone all non Hawthorn supporters love to hate but he is exactly what we need .

Would like to see McDonald and Gulden add years to there contract like Campbell. Don’t think there is a risk with Gulden but if we get to the half way mark next year and McDonald isn’t resigned I will be worried

I think Dawson would rather sign 2 year contract with us than risk going to the PSD and having to play at least a year at either North or GC. This would see him get to Crows as RFA (if desire remains), hopefully enjoying finals/flag success with us in the meantime. We're most likely to get better AFL draft compensation than if we traded him now, assuming Dawson's AA playing trajectory continues.

I found this article on SEN of interest, when thinking about the value of a player being traded.

How often do top 10 picks turn into All-Australian calibre players?

Using players drafted between 2005-2015 as the sample, if you took a player in the top ten, there was only a 28% chance they'd become an all Australian. Or looking at it the other way round, if you have an AA quality player (like a Dawson) you should be getting between 3 and 4 top-ten picks back to give you a replacement player that will become an AA.

To me it shows how far the balance is tilted in favour of the club receiving the player, and that pick 4 would not be overs.

You could argue that clubs are better at drafting than they were 15 years ago, but I'd guess the stats wouldn't be drastically different.

Good points. Draft picks are way overrated.
