So what's the situation with the remaining out of contract Swans? When do we have to finalise delistings by?
As I understand it Ronke, O'Connor, Clarke, Bell, Wicks and Reid are all out of contract. There was some talk of Bell's contract being extended through a trigger clause but no one has confirmed and there was chat that Wicks was close to signing a 2 new yr deal.
You'd think with Hewett gone, Clarke may get a new deal as depth (esp if Bell goes). Reid could be out the door with Ladhams in and freeing up more salary space for us.
On a sidenote - I hope Taylor gets a shot at seniors this year.Comment

I guess we all have pundits that we don't mind and others that we dislike. Personally, I quite enjoy listening to what King, Lloyd, Cornes, the 4 guys on On The Couch (Healy, Lyon, Reiwolt, Brown), Carolyn Wilson, Whately and Robbo have to say. Sure, I don't always agree with them, but I respect that they speak without fear or favour and seem well informed. Some of the journalists who seek headlines by saying outrageous things eg Damien Barrett, have less respect from me.Comment

I dont know hoe some red and whiters say the ladhams deal was ok. Firsly port refused out reequest in 2020 trade period and i am not sure if ladhams did too, The we swap our first rnd picks this year, didnt read anything about a fduture 2nd rounder. he didnt do much in the prelim against Footscray either and hasnt taken the rcuks apart. Why did port change in 2021 and di Ladhams change his mind as well. As for Richuto and Reid the sa mand can both get stu'd. Maybe kingy will be right and he jD wont be as good for Crows because of the way they play. Where do we get stuffed next time.Comment

As it stands, we are five down from this year's roster (44) with some suggestion we might only go with possibility we might only go with 42 this year. We have picks 16, 31, 39, 70, 88 in the draft.
My gut says that Ronke will be de-listed. We will use picks 16, 31 and 39 (hopefully package 70 and 88 with one of the higher picks to slide up a few spots) then take McCartain in the rookie draft.Comment

I don’t for one minute think that Buddy’s final year is 2022. I think he got his body in great order in the last preseason. The only games he missed through injury were from a collision injury, not soft tissue.
He will build on this in this offseason and could have a better year in 2023. Some old guys just learn to manage their bodies and go on and on. Shaun Burgoin was a a great example and Christiano Ronaldo is another.
Why not Buddy. He wants to play on and I think he’s probably now working harder than any other player on the list.Comment

As much as I've always been a fan of Reid, his body has failed him and it may be that it's time for him to move into retirement. Or return to his roots as a KP back.Comment

It was a future 3rd, we ended up handing over the equivalent of pick 39 I believe. I'm not sure it looks great for Reid who has been a loyal but frequently injured servant. Ditto Naismith (next year)Comment

Move Amarty to defence he can learn from Reid how to play the intercept role.
McLean to CHF still a work in progress, Logan to FF and Buddy to HFF. Still have Papley and Wicks as small forwards
Reid is there for back up in case of injury.
Ladham gets to ruck more by rotating through Forward pocket or the bench, with Tom H.spriteComment

I agree Auntie. This draft should be about adding strengthening our defence to some degree. I also wouldn't be surprised if we see McLean, Amartey or Reid (if he we offer him a contract) down back. I like some others would like to see Paddy M added, but a combination of his concussion history and on-field brain fade but counter that happening.
The pick swap in the Ladhams trade probably clarified our situation a little bit more. Most pundits think that Gibcus is the best kpd in the draft, but while I could see him possibly slipping to pick 12 (14 with bids), I can't see him slipping to 16 (18). Likewise, if we were thinking of perhaps replacing Dawson with the skilful kicking and outside run of Wanganeen-Milera. Now, if he's still there at Port's newly acquired pick, I feel pretty sure that they'll take him.
Which leads us deciding whether to take a kpd with our first pick, when the likely options of Bazzo, Van Rooyen and Alleer are rated in the 25-40 range? Or do we go with the best available mid, that's currently rated in the 10-20 range and hope that we can get a decent kpd with our pick 31? My preference would be to go for a kpd with our first pick. Especially if it's Alleer.
Chris Doerre actually has him at 9, while the other pundits have him in the 30s. My inclination is that Doerre's more correct. Alleer is 197cm, fast and an excellent intercept mark.

I also think that the other pundits might be underrating him, because he wasn't picked up in his draft year, by the Crows as a NGA selection. But the simple reason for that, was that he badly broke his leg during that year.
If we do take a kpd with our first pick, it should be best available player with pick 31. Although, if Blayne O'Loughlin is still available, I think we should definitely place a bid: and not just to slightly annoy the Crows. He's been in very good form, we might need a classy small defender, and if for some reason the Crows didn't match, it would be nice to gain the nephew of a club legend. Another family connection that may come into play with that pick, is Chad Warner's brother, Corey. He does appear to be a decent prospect and may be some insurance against the dreaded go home factor.Last edited by dejavoodoo44; 14 October 2021, 09:51 AM.Comment
