Seriously, I’m not against having Wicks and happy that he has signed on. I just want him to improve his game: be involved more, impact the scoreboard and if your main role is to apply pressure to curb the half backs from run and carry, then please do so and don’t just run around like a headless chook. And don’t give away too many frees!

Apart from that, your game is perfect!????

Personally, I'm very pleased that Wicks has re-signed. He had an excellent season playing in most games. He has room for improvement but has yet to reach his prime. Plenty of upside in my view.

Ok- we’re ALL happy that Wicks has re-signed, but SOME of us have reservations. We just want him to improve next year. If his role is to be a pressure forward and to take his opportunities as they come along, then we should all be happy with that.

The thing is, towards the mid- latter part of the year, I didn’t see him doing this very well. I don’t want Ronke or Clarke to take his spot. But if he doesn’t improve, rather have Campbell or even Squizzy there. He is in our bottom 6 at present IMO and that’s nothing to get excited about.

Totally agree. The guy’s played how many games? Plenty of room for improvement there, and he’s shown a bit of fire and competitiveness.

I'm in no way having a go at Wicks. Good on him for what he has been able to do. I'm just amused how the write up on the website and in the members news is at the level we got when Parker signed for another few years. I'm not comparing him to Ronke or Clarke who are depth players at best, I'm just surprised at the publicity for a player that the followers of other clubs wouldn't have heard of. (Except maybe those at Richmond)

He has played all but 1 game this year, so he’s had chances. Of course his total tally is still low and as you say, room for improvement. However at the moment he is just a bit ahead of Bell………….. ouch!

I reckon if Wicks got another 8 or so goals ie 25 for the season than we wouldnt see a negative between here and Birdsville Track

he is 21 and he missed a few easy ones but I reckon in his second true season of AFL he will win those back

His role is a defensive forward and overall for his age and experience he did this very well indeed

The benefit of Wicks is he has a bit of fire in him. Gets in opposition faces. We don’t have enough of it.

I see former Academy product, Ben Davis, has just been delisted by Adelaide. He struggled to win senior games there so not really surprising.

Would another club have taken him? I can see Port taking him at 16. Do we think the Crows would have been forced to use or at a minimum split pick 4 to get him?

What is there to stop JD doing what Jack Martin did and putting a price on his head that only the Crows are prepared to match?
Well, there's a good chance they may not have landed him at all. He'd be able to puta price on his head and I guess that may have scared some clubs off. If he puts a high enough p[rice on his head I guess he can be confident about landing at the Crows but not entirely sure and the Crows would at least have to fork up a decent pick. WHat would happen in reality I feel is create enough uncertainty to force clubs to offer fair deals. Of course if the selling club is unreasonable then you send him to the draft and take your chances

I suspect a number of clubs with cap space would have had a go in the first round. Adelaide would have had to spolit their pick 4 I feel to get him and would have paid close to top 10 I feel.

The AFL have got to do something about this, especially if they pull this stunt again to shaft the Suns.

I see Wicks as having huge upside. A little more polish and output in front of goal and he will be a very very valuable player.

And like you I like his aggressive approach.

We're really building a good local core now - Rampe, Heeney, Mills, Blakey, Gulden, Campbell and now Wicks. Bell is growing too and maybe Sheather next year. It would be a remarkable result if we could get 50% or more Academy kids on our list

Great news to re-sign Wicks, has a lot of upside and as has been pointed out, really has a go and a bit of fire.

Goes to show, a lot of the media chatter is complete male bovine manure, put up anything to fill space, four year deal for Wicks at Norf talked about in the press!

I love it. Out of interest TheBloods, have you coached some football teams in your time?

You seem like the sort of coach I would have loved. You would have given me a half time tirade that would have had me shaking. I would have then run out after half time fired up looking to atone. I would have run harder, tackled harder and been more accountable.

I loved a good dressing down and you would a given storming dressing down.
