It may be a bad thing for us as there are only two teams there and if both had good draft hand they may have fought over his services. Port will go for an inside mid and may not want Dawson.

We should not roll over but the other thing we should do is to get Stephens to stay and prioritise him as an outside mid. Hewett should be a priority too now.

Is Tom Lynch someone we should look at given we are still in the window to compete for the flag next year? And given Don Pyke has worked with him and could get him to play ala Dawson? I would not give him a long contract though max 2 years?
I think the ROK strategy that Liz out outlined could be on.

The question that needs to be asked pertains to Dawson’s relationships with key Swans stakeholders. Does anyone know if Dawson’s relationship with the Swans is positive? Ludwig has put his outstanding analysis forward on this question.

I’m thinking to force Dawson to make a choice between North and the Swans? It’s a high risk game by the Swans but Dawson is worth it.

He may decide that two more years at the Swans are better than restarting a life in Melbourne when he wants be be in Adelaide anyway.

Gold Coast did that with Jack Martin in 2019. This what was said at the time:

"The Suns had initially threatened to re-draft Martin but when he nominated terms of a five-year contract within which he would be paid about $1.1million in the first year and more than $800,000 in the second year it made it far less likely the Suns would pursue the re-drafting plan."

Did the move to let him walk to the PSD for nothing, result in helping GC with subsequent player retention?

A different idea. Can we let Dawson relocate while still playing for us?

He can fly up for the Thursday training session and stay on until the game is complete.

He then stays in Adelaide for the early part of week.

He does all the meetings via Zoom and completes the recovery training session with a SANFL club?

From what I noticed he’s a motivated young man whom doesn’t mind doing training by himself. I’m sure his training in the early part of a week would be high standard.

Is this worth a go? Appreciate, it could open the Floodgates.

If North or GC come out and say that if Dawson went to the PSD they would take him, then we are talking business. But it's hard to see that happening. And it's not worth the risk of thinking that they might if Dawson went to the PSD.

Chances are that we will get a reasonable deal for Dawson, even if it's not true value what he's worth. Even when you get a lesser value, it doesn't mean that the end result turns out worse. As we are well aware, sometimes those first round picks turn out to be duds but the 2nd rounders are great. If often not worth the trouble to argue over a few places in the draft.

I've seen a few draft journos saying that Port's pick 16 + Hayes could be a fair deal and could get done. That looks fine to me. If something around that value comes to pass, I don't think we could complain.

We will see how things unfold now that Port are out of the finals.

You forgot to include all the quarantine time in your calculations. Maybe you want to try again.

Under those arrangement I could take over Charlie Gardiner's job as Head of Football. And I'm willing to get paid in Thai Baht under the table. Probably wouldn't even go into the soft cap.

According to Morrison the State borders will be open by Christmas. Well before round 1. State travel should be happening by then.

It’s only a pandemic for the unvaccinated.

Mark McGowan doesn't necessarily see it that way.

Difference is no one else was willing to pay that kind of Money other than Carlton . Dawson on the other hand I’m sure North would if he put a price on his head
Dawson is a way better player than Martin as well as being more durable

State borders might be open but I think the stipulation is that the vaccinated can quarantine at home rather than a medi-hotel. And what happens when the next even more virulent strain emerges that is actually not affected by the current vaccine? And, seriously, the Swans didn’t allow half the side to live in Melbourne when they first moved to Sydney, I doubt they will let a player live in Adelaide. And who is absorbing the cost of flights 23 weeks a year. Cheaper to move his whole family over when the borders open.

You know that you can still contract covid when you’re vaccinated right? It can prevent contracting the virus. But in many cases it reduces the symptoms, which is why you still have to quarantine. The relaxation is on how long for and where you quarantine.

True, but the suggestion by another poster was to force Dawson into the PSD to make a statement to other Swans players that the Club will not be walked over. I used the Martin deal as an example where it had zero impact on subsequent behaviour by players. GC remain as vulnerable to losing players as they were before GC got nothing for Martin to "send a message" to others.

I can only assume that in making such a bizarre suggestion you are having a joke with us? We are talking about full-time, professional footballers who train, attend meetings etc for a full week. Working virtually is not an option. Surely you are smart enough to see that?

Maybe, but that’s not what he said just a month or so ago. Either something has happened in the meantime that has changed his mind completely or he is simply a very good liar. Tom and Charlie seemed to have bought it. Both SA teams like to try bringing players back home once they’ve established themselves elsewhere, so reckon they’ve both got to him at some point in recent weeks (perhaps during those solo stints in the gym?)
