That would be right - hard to compare I guess when the standards of all players is much higher in terms of preparation etc. And senior players are playing longer at a higher standard as well, which could balance some of that out.

And raw stats in terms of possessions are a bit meaningless today, fewer genuine position or role players etc - so more difficult to compare.

I do think we have had a distinct strategy around playing young guys as much as possible in their first couple of years, probably as a retention strategy of sorts.

Gotcha, surely North are prime for Cerra if it all gets too hard

Cerra was a top-10 draft pick, and is 3 years younger, but it's a very reasonable question.

Hun also reporting that Swans are more interested in players than picks, which is interesting given our apparent lack of $$$. We'd be prepared to "go to the market" for a player if we got Port's pick 16.

Sounds like a job for Bangalore Swans to call out unethical practices.
I read a post by him and thought to myself that I had read the same thing on RWO. I couldn't remember who posted it so just assumed that he posted on both sites but under a different name. I'm not a member of Big Footy either, I just read.

Edit: I see it's been sorted now.

Mills, Kennedy, Blakey, Campbell, McDonald, Stephens, Fox, Amartey.

This is a list of players who did not play in our elimination final who played at least 6 games in the regular season and who would all hope to play regularly in 2022. I think most on here would agree that it is a pretty good list of names.

I like Hewett and have argued for his re-signing throughout this thread. However, I do look at this list and see how the club can make a strategic decision to actually free up a position in the 22 as well as decent salary cap space.

                * Note I didn't include Reid in the list because I don't think he is in our plans as best 22 for 2022 but he could be.

Entirely plausible, even within constraints of the salary cap.

Let’s say, for sake of argument, we’d set aside $550k a year for Dawson and would need to pay Hewett $400k to keep him happy and in Sydney.

We’ve lost Dawson and for sake of argument formed a view we have midfield depth to cover Hewett.

That’s alot of money to play with. You could easily go spend $400k targeting a promising young KPP and still have plenty to roll into the 2023 cap spend. It’d cover an upgrade for Gulden, Campbell and McDonald combined.

Or use some of it to renegotiate Heeney, Mills etc and pull a bit extra under the 2022 cap.

All sorts of possibilities depending on where we are at in the way you can play the cap.

You can’t have too many mids. Have a look at the Bulldogs, they already had one of the top midfields in the league and they went an added Treloar

It concerns me that our list managers don’t seem to subscribe to this theory, particularly when Josh is heading into what will surely be his final season

                      Melbourne Herald Sun reporting:

Saints come up short with tall Swan

St Kilda is set to miss out on Sydney key forward Hayden McLean, who is now negotiating a new deal with the Swans.

If that's the Ralph article, he billed it as explaining 'why the Swans have more cap space than predicted': Jon Ralph on Twitter: "Chol’s landing spot, CCJ’s decision, McLean to stay at Swans, Davis to go again, why the Swans have more cap space than predicted, how Tom Mitchell to Port makes so much sense, Roos offers to vets, Stack to get 1 year. Heaps of new stuff in the trade wrap https://t.co/bpYZRFrsat". Is that an inference drawn from our apparent interest in a player or is there something substantive to it?

Its good to read some good news today about Wicks and McLean after the shock of Dawson. The Herald Sun also suggesting with the money saved on Dawson that the Swans could look at available players elsewhere. Personally, I would use it on re-signing our emerging talent coming out of contract this/next year.

Yes, they added Treloar but that has now been at the expense of Lipinski. I don’t know the Bulldogs list very well but I suspect other young players like Rhylee West also paid a price. Every decision has an opportunity cost.

So the swans know are hopefully scouring the list of players with a year left on their contract from other teams . Would like to see us target a player like Port did with Alir last year .
Interesting now our salary cap wasn’t as tight as the media first thought . We do play our cards close to our chests that’s for sure

You are not perceived as a troll for your comments on J-Mac and The Chad, but for your persistent efforts to heap s*** on Rowbottom either through inference or by direct attack. I'm glad you haven't been playing that tiresome tune lately. It makes me more likely (for whatever it's worth to read and consider your posts).
