Both offer more upside and would come cheaper than Talia allowing us to spend money elsewhere.
Keen to hear from people (including Jimitron if the case) who actually saw P McCartin play as a defender this year. Like, what he did well and what he had to work on? And I'm particularly keen to hear how they reckon he'll go against the new generation of giants coming through - the 200+cm types like the Kings who are going to be the new norm.

      Just now on AFL website

PORT Adelaide has extreme interest in securing the signature of wantaway Sydney winger Jordan Dawson as the Power through the wreckage of their preliminary final "abomination", football manager Chris Davies says.

Also, a full page in today's Advertiser saying Crows must go all out for Dawson's signature

Dawson in quarantine for another week before he can meet Crows and Power in person.

No. I'm saying these pundits are always saying clubs "should be able to" get a high pick, and then when the club doesn't then they
have a go at the club for not reaching this high bar that they (the pundits) suggested. I'd keep him, give him another year to develop.
He is a young guy, has come up to the big smoke via a couple country towns (Mildura & Adelaide) in the Covid era. He's 20, right?
Maybe he finds the whole lifestyle change thing challenging and there is all this pressure on him to instantly perform because he is
a #5 pick that wouldn't be on him if he was a #45 pick. A successful footy career is a marathon not a sprint. The club can afford to
put more time into developing him.

Port are also have Jeremy Findlayson (GWS) doing a medical. I'm not sure how they expect to get all these players.

We have to find another Jordan Dawson and quickly. A player ready for senior footy that can pinpoint the ball. He moved up onto a wing this year so we should look at a winger/mid. Stephens doesn't fit that bill. The other thing we need is another guy like Warner to bolster the mids as Kennedy gets to retirement.

Parker, Mills, Warner, Rowee, Ollie, Paps, Ronke (if he is retained), Sheather, Campbell, Gulden. But we need one more just to strengthen the mix. We need a KB to partner McCartin long term. Brand is not up to it obviously. Rampe was furious with Brand's positioning in one match and too the KB position from him. It was a fundamental error and telling. I think O'Connormight be the guy going forward but a third would be good.

What is it we desperately need? We need another ruck. I would get two_One to develop and one to stand up now. We have McAndrew but another young ruck to pair with him would be good. In the meantime to take the pressure off Tom Hickey what about Archie Smith? I think Smith was undervalued at Lions.

It's allegedly another COVID case. His partner is from SA and they've just had a daughter.

AFL news 2021: Trades, Jeremy Finlayson, medical at Port Adelaide, Jordan Dawson, out of contract players

[Port] Football boss Chris Davies spoke to reporters on Wednesday, “Jordan Dawson is certainly a player that we have extreme interest in ... Any South Australian player wanting to come home is someone we need to do our due diligence on. He’s had a great year and if he wants to come to our club that would be fantastic.”

It would certainly improve Port a lot. I think Port would immediately move him to their major problem area, the mids.

Whether it's a lack of research, or simply a lack of curiosity and interest, it devalues so much of the commentary and analysis on interstate teams in Melbourne.

Of course, most AFL media is Vic based and they naturally defer to the Vic readers and viewers.

Not Vic bashing here, but the Vic centric views there are frustrating at best.

Wish I had the solution rather than just whinging about the problem.
Matt Rendell is a South Australian and not so long ago worked for the Adelaide Football Club. Hence, I doubt he can be accurately labelled as "Vic centric".

I would be quite happy to have Finlayson at the Swans! He has an elite left foot kick (like Dawson), can play forward or back (like Dawson) and is a little taller.

He has a lot of talent and with the right coaching could still be a damaging player in the AFL.

He may want to move to S.A. for personal reasons??? But if not I feel it would be negligent of our recruiters to not ask the question.

It's for personal reasons as posted above.

Please, no, we don't want Finlayson. Unless it's for a ski holiday and we are racing downhill. Otherwise, pass.

It's good news that the Port and Crows have competing messages in the media about their interest in Dawson. A bidding war is good for us. I can't understand how a pick outside the top 12 is acceptable to anyone. He just finished 3rd in a finals teams BnF. We shouldn't be settling just because it's not ideal for the clubs that want him.

Make it Adelaide's problem to split pick 4 in to 10 and 25. Or Port to package up a good player. This is a seriously good player, who has plenty of upside left. When he gets AA next year, at want to know that we got a good return on him.

We've traditionally not played hardball, once we accept that a player is leaving. He's definitely worth something around pick 10 (so above pick 16). And I'd love to see us get that rather than caving in. There has been a suggestion (possibly on here) that we see it as fair to the player to facilitate a trade once we've accepted their trade request. As in we will make it happen for them, and that may be meaning we get lower value than we could.

There's so much to play out this off-season.

you will be sorely disappointed if you are banking on some of these players to help our midfield
