Maybe Adelaide is backpedalling a little now, as they will be trying to extract either one or two players from GC next year.

We may also be easing back in the demands, so to keep our image of fair dealers who look after players who want to leave for genuine reasons.

If they appear too tough in their negotiations and unwilling to be flexible, then it may comeback to bite them. Particularly if they really try to screw the AFL's love child.

Screwing GC would be like killing Bambi in some eyes.

So I've been continuing to chat to a friend in Adelaide and a friend in Sydney this morning. You can take or leave this as you will.

* Both Adelaide clubs felt their pursuit was over and started making alternative plans.
* They kept an eye on the situation, but even at season's end didn't expect anything to happen
* End of season exit interview. Nothing said by JD about going home.
* Gets into quarantine, then tells Sydney via zoom.
* The Swans are blind-sided and disappointed, but plead with him to give them time to negotiate a good deal with both clubs. He kind of agrees.
* He meets both clubs, but has a childlike crush on Ricciuto and says yes. Even Adelaide were laughing at how quickly he folded.
* The Swans are dirty.
* The Swans pitch is something that values him above our current first pick. The Crows are refusing.
* The Crows didn't leak the conversation with Horse, but his manager did.
* The Swans are now doubly dirty that he leaked his conversation with Horse.
* And if this ends up via the PSD, don't be surprised. Adelaide knows they can likely get away with it, and the Swans need young players to see the risk is there and not every player might be able to run that gauntlet.

Good analysis, but as I have mentioned previously, probably at ad nauseam for many readers, the PSD draft does not scare departing players. It is now just a rubber stamp.

Not when every player since 2003 has walked straight through the PSD to their club of choice. If anything, Dawson's departure it will encourage players to leave knowing once they nominate a club it's a fait accompli.

Exactly. The PSD causes absolutely no issues in going to the club of your choice. All it does is disadvantage the departing club.

Yeah, unless North don't actually take him, which is 99.9% most likely.

The AFL needs to fix the PSD. Its crap. Should be for delisted and players overlooked in national draft/rookie draft only. If your out of contract, you should have to enter the national draft imho. Stops this nonsense that has gone on too long with the PSD.

Your solution re the PSD is the correct one. What occurs now is absurd, particularly when a player nominates a club near the bottom of the ladder, or a two-team town.

North will not take him if he gets to the PSD. Therefore I have full confidence that Kinnear Beetson will get get the best possible outcome, whatever that may be, for Dawson going to the Crows.

List management is difficult at the best of times. Over the years we have done pretty well, and lost very few players that we didn’t actually want to lose.

Jordan looks like the exception. When a player puts off signing a new contract or an extension until the end of the season, the alarm bell are surely ringing and the club is then at a huge disadvantage- hence this should be avoided as much as possible in the future.

I don’t see the point in letting Jordan go to the PSD as it doesn’t serve as a deterrent as pointed out by others. Of course if we settle for Melbourne’s pick in 2022 which is what’s on offer at the moment, it is way under (though not exactly worthless) but it would demonstrate to all and sundry and especially to Jordan, just how much the Crows actually value him. Any true Crows supporter would be absolutely thrilled in getting a player of his ability and wouldn’t begrudge the club if they offered a decent trade as they were always going to win on this one.

If Jordan is truly sincere in wanting us to be fairly compensated, he should tell his management that if the Crows don’t improve their offer to an acceptable level, he will stay with us. Unfortunately I can’t see him doing this based on his past behaviour, but that’s precisely what he should do if he cares a little for the club that helped to make him the footballer he is and the opportunity to earn a salary which is more than our Prime Minister earns.

AFL website has some remarks about the deals that are still ongoing three days before the end of player trading.

Ladhams: Port wants first round picks. Other clubs tell them they're dreaming. Speculates that a second-round pick will get the job done. My guess: pick 39.

Dawson: Has some time to go. Summarises Friday's offers. More clarity may come on Monday. My guess: Melbourne's future first-round pick and a swap of second-round picks that is to the Swans' advantage.

Why would’nt North have a dip in the Preseason draft? It makes logical sense.

He may have a price of $800,000 plus over 5 years. North say ok your in.

Dawson says no way. The AFL says ok son you will not work in the AFL industry for 5 years. Do you think his partner is going to be happy with Dawson earning poorer money playing the next 5 years in the SA League? No Dawson will go to North Melbourne and do his job.

It’s all upside for North. After one year they can trade him back to the Crows for a mid range 1st round draft pick or better if he has an outstanding year. North earnt the draft pick by taking him in the PSD. The Crows will trade him back and take his whole salary. They won’t let Jordan down a 2nd time because they made him a promise.

It’s totally possible North can do this. It’s within the rules and there is logic for it. Why do people believe that North won’t do this and can’t do this because it doesn’t regularly happen?

The reason North are not talking to Dawson is that they don’t need too. If he’s in the PSD and they agree to his price then he has no power other than opting out of the AFL for the length of his contract. Only a billionaire would piss up over $3,000,000 against a wall.
