I'm really intrigued by Jarrod Brander. 195cm. He was pick 13 in 2017. He's only 22.

As recently as May, the Weagles were "salivating" over him

Why the Eagles are salivating over Jarrod Brander, the 17-gamer with 'no ceiling'

"He's a good character and we're really pleased with what he's showing us at the moment. He's got the opportunity to become a really strong player for us ... Athletically he's very strong, and he's got good endurance and good speed. He's tall and he's very agile, and then he's also good at ground level ... the role he's been playing on the wing has really assisted us and we feel like he's really starting to evolve ... There's no ceiling for Jarrod and it's going to be up to him on how hard he's prepared to work on his craft and his body and his mind."

Yeah, I'm intrigued by him, and by why the Eagles seem lukewarm on him. He'd be as close to a like-for-like replacement for Dawson as we're likely to get, if we are looking for one. Not as good, not at the moment. But capable of playing similar positions, and (IMO, most importantly) adding some marking power in the midfield/wing/HB/HF.

I'll text my Eagles supporting friends to see if they can shed any light on what his "issues" are.

I'd love to know as he seems like a pretty handy pick up

I’d be keen for the feedback, but my issue watching him is what is he? He doesn’t seem strong enough to be a KPP. His skills aren’t slick enough to play wing, where the Weagles played him. He doesn’t look robust in the contest. And he doesn’t appear a great mark. I just struggle to see what he is as a player. Maybe he struggled for regular game time in a side that was settled till this year and maybe I’m wrong, but he looks meh to me.

He clearly has some talent, as coming into his draft year he was rated no1 in the land and other clubs were so annoyed at the prospect of GWS getting another player from the border under their Academy (lol) that the boundaries got changed.

But I’ve not seen anything since that screams, let’s get him.
'Delicious' is a fun word to say

Farewell George, you may have had your critics at times (including myself here and there) but beyond all that, we'd be hard pressed to find a player who's been more consistent in their performance and has done whatever job the coaches have asked of them than George.

Sad day for the club... [emoji22]

I'm also sad to see George go. He was on the news just before and his son was wearing Carlton colours ?.

Thanks for the heads up. Good to see Marsh kick a goal for Subi.

What about Talia, Brander, Young etc?
Said g'day to Daniel Talia two days ago as he left the local pool here in inner Adelaide. Thinking about it now, I should have asked him if he was interested in filling in a couple of seasons for us at FB :-) He looked fit.

On Dawson, get the feeling we're going to make the Cows work for it, who knows what the outcome will be. I'd be ok with 23 and next years second. We could be building a decent draft hand with trading possibilities.

That's an ok pick for Hewett who isn't required. There will be a lot of pick trading IMO and it's likely the Hewett pick could move in a few spots if the Dogs and Pies burn 30's pick paying for Daicos and Darcy. -

"Gold Coast have a shed load of picks this year 3, 19, 22, 46, 58, 61, 69 and only plan on using two" - that's a lot of picks to be trading away and would be of interest to Pies and Dogs in particular plus other clubs. The rule implemented to only allow you to use as many picks on matching for a player as you have main list vacancies is a good one, stops clubs picking up high draft picks for a bucket of junk picks like GWS did.

If Dawson goes to pre season draft, and nominates himself at say 4 years @600k. ... The gold coast should take him.
Firstly, because he's exactly they player they need, and
Secondly because they are a victim of the preseason trade leverage, and would send a strong message that their are big risks going via pre-season.

GC also must have salary cap problems. They just signed Mabior Chol and are in talks of doing a salary dump trade with NM for Darcy Macpherson. If they can't afford to pay Macpherson then how are they going to match 650kpa for Dawson?

I think NM are the only ones who could possibly take Dawson before Adelaide in the PSD.

I’d say you’re right re: North being the only realistic threat in the PSD.

Although I think the salary dump from GC is more about the sheer waste of paying $400K+ to multiple players like McPherson and Brodie who they realise are only going to be expensive VFL players.

I’m not so sure 2021 is their salary cap problem but might be trying to free some cap space now and frontload other contracts knowing they’ll have to pay double market rate to convince guys like King and Lukosius to stay at the end of next year.

And while I’m at it. Why can’t SOS accept that his time at Carlton is up?

SOS is even making the dressing room uncomfortable for his son. Stop living in the past SOS. Cooke’s in charge now.

More broadly, sounds like a great way for George to make new friends in his new workplace. I am sure it will endear him to everyone at the CFC and make him the no 1 favourite with their fans.

MCS, wouldn’t you be annoyed if you turned up to a new work place and a co-workers father had made public comments questioning whether your the sort of worker that workplace needs?
