I know this is possibly not a popular viewpoint but I still stand by my opinion that Dawson doesn’t want to be here so we should accept that and obtain the best possible result we can and move on. I know it hurts many that he has chosen not to continue his career with us but he has completed his contract and has made a decision to move on and even if we could create a situation where he feels re-signing with us is the only palatable option available to him what level of player loyalty and commitment would that engender, not only from him but with any future player negotiations ?
In the outside world if you sign a contract for a particular length of time and complete it then generally if you decide to take your skills elsewhere than it’s rare that your current employer would be compensated.
If we were that sold on him we would have offered more than a two year contract back in 2019 when he started to show some consistent form . It was great drafting by us to grab him at pick 56 and hopefully we can use whatever compensation we receive to find another future senior mainstay. As an aside I don’t even think he is the best pick 56 we have ever had that honour in my opinion going to ROK.

Given we have a high quality group of young players from SA and WA (Gould, Stephens, McDonald, Warner).. I'm happy to make a strong stand on Dawson and needing to be fairly compensated.

North knocking back the 3 first rounders is good news for us. As Adelaide may not have another player that they really love (unlike JHF). If there is reticence from those above Adelaide to trade picks, and Adelaide does not have a standout at pick 4 (which will become pick 6), then maybe they may wilt and do a fair trade with Sydney

the problem i suspect maybe each of us is encountering is defining the word "fair".

Fair for Adelaide is get the best deal they can and given that Dawso has nominated Adelaide already...........

Adelaide get to define "fair" and we have less say in this negotiation than we probably would hope for.

Dawso is definitely a top 10 pick in my humble opinion but that doesnt mean we can achieve that because the rules and the go hime factor go against us achieving a top10 pick me thinks

It is a shame we dont have a little more media support though.........this is not just about Dawso.........this is about Sydney being very vulnerable to go home players and it compromises who we draft because of this trend that could really start to emerge for us

I just watched a bunch of Ladhams' highlights on his profile page on the AFL stats page.

I was encouraged. His tap work seems pretty good. He's the same height as Hickey. He actually won a greater proportion of hitouts than Hickey, although Hickey won a greater percentage to advantage.

He seems pretty mobile; has a good handball and a decent left foot kick. Decent leap into marking contests (including intercepts) and seems good on the lead. McLean is a better contested mark, but otherwise Ladhams is an upgrade.

McLean is also a better field kick and applies himself to the contest more than Ladhams

I think that may be seen as draft manipulation, and thus illegal?

OOpps sorry, i didnt realise this has already ben addressed.

I would love us to take him, 1 to keep the famous bloodline in the red and white and 2, to spite Adelaide as the article says he is still in their draft plans if he is available with one of their late picks or rookie selections.

He has some tricks that I think we could definitely make use of!

Yeah he looks a pretty decent player . Wouldn’t be disappointed at all if we selected him . I reckon he will go in the 30 to 40 range .

I reckon she's played a huge part in this as she is from the same home town as Jordan.

I wonder if the AFL may intervene in the JD case due to Adelaide seemingly failing to negotiate in good faith? Walking players to the PSD is viewed as a last resort whereas Adelaide seem to use this as a common occurrence (last season and possibly this one as well). Making an offer early in the trading period which everyone saids is low ball, putting a 24 hour time limit on it, and then making no further offers seems to indicate a clear failure to negotiate in good faith. It really undermines having a trade period and sets an unfortunate precedent that others might follow. At the very least, the approach may lead to reform of the trading rules.

McLean can't ruck and doesn't get as much of the ball

Yes there definitely needs to be a reform as Clubs are have been held hostage for years by outgoing players wanting to either move to a particular club whilst stating the need to "go home"...

It puts ALL the clubs in the Northern states at a huge disadvantage as while everyone likes to have a big whinge about the Academies, it has been extremely rare that a player leaves another club to "go home" to a NSW or QLD club.
