I don’t see the point in letting Jordan go to the PSD as it doesn’t serve as a deterrent as pointed out by others. Of course if we settle for Melbourne’s pick in 2022 which is what’s on offer at the moment, it is way under (though not exactly worthless) but it would demonstrate to all and sundry and especially to Jordan, just how much the Crows actually value him. Any true Crows supporter would be absolutely thrilled in getting a player of his ability and wouldn’t begrudge the club if they offered a decent trade as they were always going to win on this one.

If Jordan is truly sincere in wanting us to be fairly compensated, he should tell his management that if the Crows don’t improve their offer to an acceptable level, he will stay with us. Unfortunately I can’t see him doing this based on his past behaviour, but that’s precisely what he should do if he cares a little for the club that helped to make him the footballer he is and the opportunity to earn a salary which is more than our Prime Minister earns.

For those who don't already know an U19 game between S.A. vs W.A. is about to commence on AFL.COM.AU (2pm AEST).

It will be the final chance to watch a few kids of interest that we may be looking at with our draft picks including young O'Loughlin and even maybe Corey Warner (brother of Chad).

There are a few of the top end talents not playing, most notably Jason Horne-Francis.

Dawson: Has some time to go. Summarises Friday's offers. More clarity may come on Monday. My guess: Melbourne's future first-round pick and a swap of second-round picks that is to the Swans' advantage.
Agreed Thunder Shaker- wonder what the crowd reaction will be when we meet the Crows next year. I hope we absolutely batter them
        without mercy!

Dawson says no way. The AFL says ok son you will not work in the AFL industry for 5 years. Do you think his partner is going to be happy with Dawson earning poorer money playing the next 5 years in the SA League? No Dawson will go to North Melbourne and do his job.

It’s all upside for North. After one year they can trade him back to the Crows for a mid range 1st round draft pick or better if he has an outstanding year. North earnt the draft pick by taking him in the PSD. The Crows will trade him back and take his whole salary. They won’t let Jordan down a 2nd time because they made him a promise.

It’s totally possible North can do this. It’s within the rules and there is logic for it. Why do people believe that North won’t do this and can’t do this because it doesn’t regularly happen?

The reason North are not talking to Dawson is that they don’t need too. If he’s in the PSD and they agree to his price then he has no power other than opting out of the AFL for the length of his contract. Only a billionaire would piss up over $3,000,000 against a wall.
It can also be looked at by the masses as poor form on their behalf by selecting a player who has clearly stated he wants to return to S.A. for family reasons... which is again why it won't happen!

Imagine the headlines... Jordan Dawson struggling with depression and mental health issues after VIC club steals him in the pre-season draft! In this politically correct day and age, no club will select a player who clearly does not want to go there. They don't even draft kids these days who publicly state they'd "prefer" to not be drafted by an interstate team (see Bailey Smith and Archie Perkins in recent years).

Do it this time next year

Similar pick swap and a 4th rounder back our way so it looks legit.

Or do it live this year

              * When he made the don't be nervous comments, both Adelaide clubs were told by his manager, he's staying - it's just which contract.
              * He had two contracts - one to FA, one the five year deal.
              * There was no attempt to argue over much of them, as they were both good offers.
              * The Swans were prepared to give him time till post-season to clear his head and choose which contract.
              * Both Adelaide clubs felt their pursuit was over and started making alternative plans.
              * They kept an eye on the situation, but even at season's end didn't expect anything to happen
              * End of season exit interview. Nothing said by JD about going home.
              * Gets into quarantine, then tells Sydney via zoom.
I think it’s safe to say all the above is accurate. The same journalists who broke the story he was suddenly gettable were the ones previously saying the SA clubs had given up, so I think the intel was always accurate, and there was a sudden change.

I did find our initial messaging interesting - clearly we were blindsided, and presumably angered - but we were almost unnaturally measured in publicly acknowledging the ‘go home’ factor. We could easily have been coy in replying to questions and implying he’d never mentioned going home before, deliberately omit that part from our press release etc, but didn’t.

Maybe calm heads prevailed and our key figures bit their collective tongues in the hope we could talk him out of it, or possibly to remain amicable to keep he and his agent on side to help drive a fair deal.

These agents see themselves as intrinsic to the trade process, usually trying to act as a muddle man to get both parties to deal (which I can understand - doing anything to assist what their client wants is their job I guess).

So sometimes these ‘leaks’ are actually quite innocent or without strategy - if the agent was trying to give Adelaide a bit of a nudge as he thought they weren’t trying hard enough to do a deal, at some point he might have said “just so you know, Longmire has spoken with Jordan to trying get him to stay”, painting himself as transparent but sowing a seed with Adelaide to keep working on the trade.

Then that message filters around at the Crows and eventually leaks out but not deliberately or strategically.

Assuming he does depart, if anything the info that he had that chat with Longmire is more detrimental IMO to his image than it not coming to light at all - so I’m not sure why his manager would deliberately leak it.

It just emphasises how blindsided the Swans were and desperate to keep him, and then taking a call from Horse which would only be stringing us along, rather than just stick to the story that things changed for him and he has made up his mind.

In fact it doesnt even need to be a public statement

Blakey Snr just calls the manager and says, we are taking Dawson if he goes PSD

Surely the point of the PSD is this, if a player like JD wants to get home then he needs to avoid the PSD as there’s a significant risk a VIC club will pick him up.

Cant have it both ways: Crows pay the price or risk missing out on JD and he risks playing in Melbourne next year.

                      * The Swans are blind-sided and disappointed, but plead with him to give them time to negotiate a good deal with both clubs. He kind of agrees.
                      * He meets both clubs, but has a childlike crush on Ricciuto and says yes. Even Adelaide were laughing at how quickly he folded.
                      * The Swans are dirty.
                      * The Swans pitch is something that values him above our current first pick. The Crows are refusing.
                      * The Crows didn't leak the conversation with Horse, but his manager did.
                      * The Swans are now doubly dirty that he leaked his conversation with Horse.
                      * And if this ends up via the PSD, don't be surprised. Adelaide knows they can likely get away with it, and the Swans need young players to see the risk is there and not every player might be able to run that gauntlet.

As I said, take it or leave it as you will.
If it is the case that his manager leaked the so called Horse interview, many clubs will view his actions as pretty dirty and be very wary of dealing with him. As I said upfront, this stinks of the manager going for a bigger commission. A top up of what he was getting at Sydney pales into insignificance with a brand new fat contract at Adelaide. If JD folded quickly after talking to Riccotta, how easy would it have been for his manager to hood wink him.

No way. The AFL industry is a business. The AFL industry does not operate to insure that Jordan gets what he wants.

North Melbourne will have no culpability for using the hand they deserve to draft the best player available in the pre-season draft. North Melbourne supporters, board members and staff would sincerely hope they take the best player available in the PSD regardless of where the player wants to go.

If Nick Blakey posted on social media that we would like Dawson to stay at the Swans and Dad also says that they would love to have him at the Roos! Could add a little spice to the situation and I am sure that the Roos would love to have Dawson so just a statement of fact, not draft tampering.

Putting a lot of trust in the AFL to not seek it as all part of a grand conspiracy.

After all, we got banned from trading despite breaking exactly zero rules....

KB and team won’t let him go to the draft- simply not in the best interests of the club. But can be used as a threat to get the deal done.
