Yep, all those cheese boards loaded up with French Triple Cream, the three week tour of every winery in the Yarra Valley,
skiing (ie drinking) in Aspen and then opening their own craft brewery/barber shop in East Melbourne, there won't be a
Demons player under 110KG at the start of next season. A number 1 pick for us. You can pencil it in now.Comment

Interesting that Ladhams reportedly had behavioral issues. This was raised in his exit interview. Albeit they aren’t major. The knock on Ladhams is his tank. He hardly took a mark in that last final.
Pick 31 and no more, plus PA want to get rid of him. Not worth a first round. But he is 23 and can develop further. Would have preferred Sam Hays from PA instead

Unfortunately I think the Cray is gone. It is heart wrenching but obviously his body has not held up.Comment

We don’t need Peter to be the saviour next year. If he can bring the ball to the ground, give good enough service in the ruck, and then take a few marks in the wing or in f50 we would be happy with it. Could addition of Peter mean that we will try and make Hayden McLean into a defender?

To the contrary. I heard on trade radio that a number of Melbourne midfielders including Clayton Oliver were seen smashing The Tan earlier in the week. Big Max was also there hanging just off the back of the smaller endurance midfielders. What a talent, what a leader big Max is.
Saying that, much of what is heard on trade radio could easily be classed as sarcasm too."You get the feeling that like Monty Python's Black Knight, the Swans would regard amputation as merely a flesh wound."Comment

If we get Ladhams, I think we need to look at a collection of six players - Hickey, Ladhams, Bud, McDonald, Amartey and McLean.
Hickey won't play every game. He didn't this year. When he doesn't, we need Ladhams as first ruck and Amartey or McLean as 2nd.
Bud won't play every game. When he doesn't, McDonald will need bid bodied support given he is young.
McDonald won't play every game - which opens the door for Amartey and McLean.
When Hickey plays, we don't want Bud or McDonald playing 2nd ruck, so Amartey or McLean will.
It'll be a rotation of players, and lends itself more to a three tall structure up forward - particularly with Heeney pegged for more midfield time.'Delicious' is a fun word to sayComment

Hayden has the tank to play in defence. Covers alot of ground in a game, has good hands and is a big lump of a lad. Playing forward, tends to drift out of a game but in defence would be more accountable. With the number of 200cm plus key forwards coming on board, it's not the worst idea to try him back. Amartey with his athleticism could also be worth a try but more in the rebounding, intercept role."You get the feeling that like Monty Python's Black Knight, the Swans would regard amputation as merely a flesh wound."Comment

Likely summary so far:
Losses: Hewett Dawson Ling Brand Carruthers Gray
Gains: Ladhams
Still waiting: Wicks Reid Ronke Clarke BOC
Draft picks: 12, 31, 39, 70, 88
I would anticipate Wicks and BOC re-signing. Reid de-list if Ladhams comes onboard. Ronke and Clarke perhaps to stay on peanuts as depth.
Means we will be looking for 5-8 new players from here on, depending on list size.Comment

Well, we were left with little choice and read the writing on the wall. The Crows screwed us because they could.
Do we regret not taking pick 17? I'm glad we put up a fight even though ultimately it's just symbolic.
One advantage of having an extra first next year is that's when we also clear the Buddy salary out of our cap and might go hard at prising a young star out of another team. I've got my eyes on Lukosius.
I was glad to see the Swans play hardball on a trade for the first time in years (bar Papley) but in the end we have very little to show for it. We're going to have to get much better at this time of year if we want to keep the talent coming into our program - could learn something from our western counterparts.Comment

If we give first rounder to Port for Ladhams, effectively equates to:
Aliir (AA defender) + 1st rounder for Ladhams (third ranked ruck at Port) + 2nd rounder.
Hats off to Port for their trading!Comment
-
Also, Ladhams was most definitely not the 3rd ranked ruck at Port this year and would likely be ahead of Hayes again next year at least. They are gambling that Hayes can take over from Lycett in a few years. Ladhams is ready to go and so they let him go now when he has good value.Comment
-
We would be daft to give Port a first round pick. Second round pick at best. If they baulk, let's revisit at the end of next year.Comment

Yesterday they would have been with a first round pick swap plus 31. So surely there's no way we should be just handing over a first rounder for him today.Comment
