Justin Reid was interviewed on SEN SA Mornings. They made it sound like they had to work hard to get over an obstinate Sydney who were asking the world for Jordan Dawson, but in the end, Adelaide relented and they are satisfied with the deal.

I was always a big fan of Hewett, but as I have been saying for a while, he had to be let go to improve the team balance. It's just one of those things that you don't want to do but have to for everyone's benefit. Carlton are going to find it hard fitting George into their on-ball brigade with Cerra coming in to play alongside Walsh, Cripps and Ed Curnow.

If Ladhams comes through like we hope he will, it could be a bigger gain for us than the loss of Dawson. I'm saying this because a high quality ruck/forward is not easy to find. We saw how much a player like Hickey has benefited the side. It's not just his ruckwork, but his ability around the ground, take marks and being an accurate goal kicker. Dawson is a first rate talent, but is positionally easier to replace.

If we can continue to draft well, then it comes down to good salary cap management and retaining the players we need to challenge for a premiership.

He says being on the road due to Covid, Covid and "everything" made him more homesick for SA ... being close to family and friends is what he (realised he) wanted. The decision came very late while he was in home quarantine in Robe.

He's happy the Swans were able to get "something" in the trade.

Reckons the Swans are a year or two ahead of the Crows (but I presume on the same trajectory - lets see if they make the eight from 15th like we did this year?)

AFL 2021 off-season news: AFL list changes, delisted players, trades, draft picks, retirements, draft order, rookies, free agents

Geelong has reportedly delisted Charlie Constable, according to multiple outlets, but has been told he may be rookie-listed by the club if he remains available.

The Cats’ pick 36 in the 2017 draft, Constable has been unable to break into the senior side, playing just 12 AFL games and spoken about in trade discussions for several seasons.

The 191cm midfielder averaged 32 disposals at VFL level in 2021

Thanks Markw for the HS summary. I hear violins playing.

Would be nice to hear Dawson pay tribute to the Swans and to our supporters ...

He did say: "I love everyone at Sydney but Adelaide was where I wanted to be" that's about as good as it got

I am trying not to be too biased here but I think JD will be highly disappointed when he realises the differences between Adelaide’s young talent and our own. They’ve bombed their first round picks for a number of years (excluding possibly Thilthorpe). Adelaide need to draft really well for another two years to be remotely on our same trajectory.

The best way to show JD what he's missing would be to win the flag next year, which would also ensure that our first rounder from the Dees is pick 17 or better.

As I said 'terrible system' in which the Swans have done the best with the cards they are dealt, ie: being lied to and blindsided by a player and then treated like @@@@ by the recipient club while our hands were tied. I'd like to see how you would have handled that situation better. Any suggestions?
Stevo, you’ve completely misinterpreted my post. Calm down.

I was referring to the situation. If we were forced to essentially give up Dawson (3rd in out B&F!) for Ladhams, that is a terrible situation and outcome for the club. Terrible.

I wasn’t ‘kicking the club while it’s down’, I love this club - hence why I frequent this forum.

                      Funny, but not funny.

But we do have to get over it. From now on it is he who must not be named.

I also think we have excellent coaches which (with the recent addition of Pyke) will develop and get the most out of our playing group. The only question mark I'd have would be on Laidler, but that's without anything concrete to back up that hunch.

                          And Brayden Sier as well.

So all those who were begging us to go after these guys, now's our big chance. And we can get them for nada. And we let go of Hewett as well, who is a similar kind of player, just better.

It should be clear by now that we never needed more inside midfielders. In fact, we had too many. The way we've gone about transitioning the team is the way to success. I think we can see that now.

I'm not convinced that we should be going after these delisted players from elsewhere like Sier unless they really fill a big need. We need to have plenty of funds to hang onto our young talent over the next two years. Spending it on depth players is not a sound approach in my view.

One thing that I find mildly amusing, is that most stories on Carlton taking Hewett, claim that they did so, to get more running power into their midfield. While on the hand, I think most of us here, feel that we let Hewett go, in order to get more run into our midfield.

He isn't going to hit the heights we all hoped when he was so good early in his career, but he could well still have more then a minor role to play for the club. And at worst, he can help develop our younger big forwards coming through - just as long as he doesn't teach them anything about kicking for goal.

It is no bigger risk then keeping Naismith around (and yes I know he is contracted) or taking a punt on Paddy Mc.
How many chances has he already had? Time to give it away.
